We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherri Petterez-Marriott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherri, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people outside the industry assume that my work is done entirely in a studio and at a desk. However, as a professional calligrapher and live artist specializing in event personalization, I am also traveling and performing this beautiful art form on-site at events and at luxury retailers throughout the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For me, calligraphy started as a hobby, but in late 2019, I turned it into a business, marketing mostly to wedding planners and brides. I began by offering invitation guest addressing on envelopes, stationery, and day-of details like place cards, bar signs, and seating charts. Over time, my business has evolved into live artistry within the event industry, including corporate events, private parties, and luxury brand activations. My expertise lies in personalization, working on any and all surfaces, beyond paper, such as glass, leather, plastic, wood, and more! Live personalization is more than just a service—it’s an experience. Businesses love the meaningful connections it fosters with their customers, while customers feel valued and appreciated. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live just north of Dallas and Frisco is where I would start. A quick itinerary would be to visit the new corporate headquarters of the PGA and then head on over to The Star and Ford Center where you could book a tour of the Cowboys practice facility which would be great for any Cowboys fans. Next I’d head to Dallas, maybe visit the Perot Museum, or stopping for a drink and quick bites at one of my favorites, The CatBird. Next would be the Stockyards in Fort Worth to experience the daily cattle drives, food, and shopping.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well first and foremost, I want to recognize my family, especially my husband Fred, for giving me the push to keep going and giving me the encouragement I needed to follow my entrepreneurial dreams. I’m also very grateful to the calligraphy community, my mentors, Kestrel Montes, Suzanne Cunningham, Michael Sull, for being so open and their willingness to share their craft, experiences, do’s and don’ts, and advise for starting and running a business in this industry.
