We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Burwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, how do you think about risk?
Growing up I never thought I would be owning a restorative tattoo business. I have a degree I don’t even use, and invested almost $30,000, into a business that failed its first year due to lack of experience in marketing & struggling with the confidence of putting myself out there . I took some time to rebrand, focus on marketing, and my self confidence . I Reopened that same business in a new city and state. I see risk-taking as a necessary part of growth, both personally and professionally. In my career as a paramedical and cosmetic tattoo artist, taking risks has allowed me to push boundaries, refine my skills, and build a business that not only fulfills me creatively but also makes a real impact on people’s lives. Whether it was investing in advanced training, opening my own studio, or shifting my focus to niche services like areola restoration, each risk came with uncertainty but also opportunity. I believe calculated risks lead to innovation and success, and without them, progress is impossible.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m Sarah, and I’m from Los Angeles. From a young age, I began to explore my love for portraiture & life drawings through various art programs. After knowing that I wanted to pursue the arts, I attended Savannah college of Art & Design. Initially a fine arts student, my path took a turn when my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. After Chemotherapy & the loss of her hair I would draw on her eyebrows & do her makeup. Witnessing the joy that beauty enhancements brought her, I found my true calling in wanting others to be able to experience the same feelings. I transitioned from traditional fine arts to the specialized field of permanent makeup & restorative tattooing, earning my certifications & honing my skills in microblading, powder brows, areola restoration, & scar camouflage.
In 2021, I began dedicating myself to enhancing confidence & well-being through artistry on the human canvas. The biggest lessons I’ve learned are that consistency builds credibility, investing in yourself is never a mistake, and success comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone.
I want the world to know that my brand is about more than just cosmetic and paramedical tattooing—it’s about empowerment, confidence, and helping people feel whole again. My story is one of resilience and passion, and I hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams fearlessly, no matter how challenging the road may be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I would definitely take my friends to Bishop Arts District. It’s such a vibe so many cute boutiques and galleries. Also the restaurants are to die for.
At some point during the week we would take a drive to Deep Ellum and go to my favorite boutique, Jade and Clover. Stock up on cute accessories and chic home goods . Then we would head to The Plant Project and grab a cute plant I hope I can keep alive longer than a week. We can’t end the week without a spa day at King Spa and Sauna. On Sunday we would go to Freeman Cajun Cafe to hear some some lively music and listen to poetry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate this the woman who inspired my business, my late mother, Debra. Special mention to my husband for putting in just as much effort into the growth of Arch and praying & walking me through every breakdown that has come along with it. I would also love to thank everyone that I’ve met along my journey , including my clients , my instructors, and every person that has listened to my story.
