We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Roth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, what inspires you?
I am inspired every day by the strength of the Lupus Warriors that we serve.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have worked in the healthcare non-profit world for most of my career. Helping to support people whose lives have been randomly and unmistakably changed, often overnight, with the diagnosis of a disease has been a way for me to find joy and purpose in this world. There are times when it is hard, when we lose someone to the finality of the disease or watch them suffer with physically and/or mentally, but knowing that we can be there to help support them until they are no longer on this earth gives us all hope.
I am particularly proud of my work at the Lupus Foundation because we offer all of our services to our warriors completely free of charge. We are able to achieve this through fundraising efforts in our community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
DFW has so much to offer! In particular, I love to visit the restaurants that are off the beaten path for a lot of people–Don Burger in Garland is a MUST do for anyone who loves a good burger! The stockyards in Fort Worth are a great place to bring my friends that aren’t from Texas, and no trip to Fort Worth is complete without a visit to the zoo. I think a trip to Deep Ellum has to make the list because of it’s unique atmosphere. For a final meal the patio at the Massero on Belt Line that overlooks the Prestonwood golf course for ceviche, chips, and drinks is the perfect ending to a great trip.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Lupus Warriors in Texas and beyond.
