We had the good fortune of connecting with David Simpson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2010, my wife, Amie and I started an adoption journey in Ethiopia. By 2011 the process wasn’t moving very fast and decided to visit. While we were there, we noticed how great the need was to care for orphans who were deemed “un-adoptable” by the government. It is very uncommon for kids to be adopted in Ethiopia and almost unheard of to adopt kids over 2 years old. We were so heart broken by what we saw and knew that every child deserved to “be loved.” God spoke to my wife and I very clearly and we knew that our story in Ethiopia wasn’t going to end with adoption. By 2013, we launched Bloved Ethiopia where we take care of double orphans that have no home. We created group homes with 8-9 kids, a mom, and an aunt so the kids can experience a true family. By 2014 we finally brought home Asher, who we waited 4 years for. Since adopting Asher, the government shut down international adoptions, confirming Gods call to take care of the orphans in Ethiopia.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One thing that sets us apart from other nonprofits is our style of a group home verses a traditional institution. Much of our structure and management style comes from our great friend Aschalew who helped us get Bloved off the ground and to the day he volunteers his time to help the kids and our team in Ethiopia. Bloved wouldn’t be where it is today without him.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to recognize one of our largest supporters, Highridge Church. They are our home church and where the majority of our sponsorships come from. We wouldn’t be where we are today without their support. We send a group to visit our kids in Ethiopia from the church each year and allow them to experience the love and joy that comes from our kids and their generosity.
