Meet Ben Dunn | Comic book editor and creator
We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ben, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
That it is really hard to make it in comics but people enter the industry all the time thinking that the idea they have is the path to success. Most first time creators are destined to fail unfortunately unless they pump their own money into keeping the project alive in the vain hope that it will be discovered by the public and catapult them into financial success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I am most proud of creating a small independent comic company that is still in business after nearly 40 years of publishing mostly just comics. I am also proud of all the comics creations I made that are still in publication today. Ask anyone in comics how difficult it is to stay in business and you will find it is extremely challenging. I’ve learned how to deal with people and make lasting friendships and alliances.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take him to all the local comic stores. The video game museum. The Canton flea market. I’d take him to the best Korean BBQ in town and the one of the last Pancho’s Mexican buffets left as well as all you can eat sushi.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To my brother and my wife who are my support system.
