Meet Jahn Dough | Hip hop

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jahn Dough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jahn, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The arts are a passion of mine. I love the process of creating and I feel like art is one of the unifying factors in this world. As humans we connect through rhythm and vibrations. Music has the power to heal and knowing my music can help someone is a beautiful feeling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe my art reflects the everyday man. I try my best to stay as authentic to my true self while making sure I make myself somewhat relatable. I am most excited about the art I am going to make in the future. I believe with every song, project, verse, idea, I get closer to becoming a true master of my craft. Of course I want financial security and the opportunity to let my art fund my lifestyle but what I am really after is three bodies of work that are undeniable classics. I want my own My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, All Eyez on Me, TPAB, Blowout Comb, The Black Album type projects under my name. I know I am going to achieve that feat; I just need to maintain my focus and not force anything.

I got where I am today by simply not quitting and keeping that supreme belief in myself and my vision. This journey has been the opposite of easy but if it was easy I’m sure more people would be doing this. I’ve been in debt over music, I’ve worked 50+ hour weeks at my 9-5 and still force myself to create and sharpen my artistic iron, I’ve dedicated so much of myself to my art there have been times where I’ve felt like I’ve lost myself in the pursuit of the goal. During my artistic journey I was not only working but I earned my masters degree as well. So working, school and music was all on my plate while trying to maintain my sanity. No it has not been easy but honestly I can’t complain. I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and nothing thrown at me, can break me so we’re all good. I’ve gotten through ups and downs through prayer, faith, and my family and friends support.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way is not to take this life thing too serious and enjoy everyday that you can. In the beginning I was so hell bent on “making it” and stressing myself out in regard to some imaginary time table that I had to meet. Now, I slow things down, take more enjoyment in what I’m creating and allow my creative soul to be the vessel for our creator. Also, to never accept “no”. In this business you’re going to hear a lot of “no’s” or “that’s not what we’re” looking for and that’s groovy. Don’t take it personal, don’t make yourself the victim, continue working on your craft and your tribe will find you and your time will come.

I want the world to know that Jahn Dough is authentically Jahn Dough. I can’t be anyone else but who I was made to be and I’ve found peace in that. I hope that my music touches the souls of those who listen and continue to make this world somewhat more relatable or tolerable for those who enjoy the tunes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ah man so if my friends were coming down from California I would lowkey take them through all parts of the DFW. I would recommend going to Cedar Ridge where they have those trails and let them get outside for a while, folks need to get more sun anyways. Then I would probably take them to North Park just so they can see how dope that mall is. Probably couldn’t buy anything in there besides a pretzel but I always liked the vibe. Then we would probaly go to Klyde Warren Park or something and grub at the food trucks. We would have to stop by Kessler Bakery and get one of those rice krispie treats. I would also take them to Deep Ellum “DURING THE DAY” and enjoy the shops and scenes of that area. I’m not really a club dude and I literally never been to a “gentlemans” club before so that area of the city is out of my range but I’d make a call or two to see what was up.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out, Dale Parhms, Darnell Parhms, Roosevelt Parhms, Dominique Traylor, John Owens, Brysen Smith, Brandon Anderson and James Scott. From the beginning they have been some of my strongest supporters and have help guide me through the journeys of life, music and just simply existing as a human. I know I can always go to them for encouragement, and they never tell me what I want to hear but what I need to hear. Being an independent artist has its trials and tribulations but with the support of my circle and loved ones, I’ve continued to make progress and continue to keep the main thing, the main thing.
