We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devin, what inspires you?
I’m mostly inspired by late 90’s and early 2000’s media. I get really inspired by seeing old CD covers, movie posters, websites, and even magazines.
Art, in general, seemed to have a bit more charm back then. Every day I find something new from that era, and it only inspires me to recreate what I see in my own way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art can be very broad and random at times, but what sets me apart the most is the feeling it evokes. I put a ton of effort into the details to fully realize each piece. Whether it’s framing the right picture or adding simple but necessary details to a magazine cover.
I’m really excited about all the upcoming collaborations I have. I’ve got some projects lined up with a few Atlanta creatives, each working in different genres.
I wouldn’t consider myself a professional right now, but staying true to myself and having confidence has kept me going. It’s easy to get lost in who you are nowadays, especially with social media growing every day. Reminding myself of the bigger picture and what I want to achieve has really helped me in times of doubt.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown is the first thing that comes to mind. Theirs a lot of diversity in restaurants, bars, and museums, so theirs a lot to be seen.
The House of Blues is a great place to be if you have a favorite artist playing, or even if you want to discover new sounds. I highly recommend going atleast once.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d say my mom has been the biggest help in my creative journey. She’s a creative herself with a great understanding of art and the art world in general. Anytime I’m feeling hesitant, she always brings an optimistic view, which in turn, only helps me grow as an artist.
