We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Mathis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Adam Simon Clothing was to create a brand for women to feel comfortable in getting one of a kind pieces that are hand crafted and made by artisans. I wanted to create clothing that women can look and feel good in.
What should our readers know about your business?
My company is named Adam Simon Clothing. We are a clothing brand that blends the art of draping and structured tailoring into garments that are intelligently inspired. Our journey is intertwined with artisans that shares our values and commitment to craftsmanship and sustainable practices, we thrive through the communities that we build and the preservation of hand crafted clothing.
I went to school for fashion design and I worked in the sportswear industry for 10 years before launching my name sake collection. I am a creative so having an understanding of my direction was very clear to me, but starting the business was not so clear. It was obvious, that I needed someone over the business of the brand while I focused on the creative side. This is where, my husband, Gabriel came in to oversee as the CFO.
I am a firm believer that it is best to focus on your strengths and to shop out or delegate the other tasks. I learned this lesson at an early stage of our business. I always want to show peoples strengths that is where success lies.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love sports so definitely a Mavericks game and some good bar-b-que.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been my biggest supporter, especially my husband Gabriel Mathis whose also my business partner. Along with my mother who was very instrumental in why and how I choose fashion design. Lastly, but certainly not least my kids are my critiques and little helpers. I am grateful for all of the support I get from my family and my community of artisans in which we are building as we continue to grow as a brand.
