We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Brooke Mensah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Brooke, what principle do you value most?
“Leave Everybody Better than You Found Them.” This has been my lifelong motto and foundational theme of REIGN since its mental inception in 2018. I decided I wanted to be a Doctor in the first grade, and as I chose habits and developed the disciplines necessary to achieve that monumentous gift, I was simultaneously developing the character to be the type of Doctor that I belived everybody needed. I may not have always known what type of Medicine I wanted to practice, but I always knew what type of Doctor I wanted to be, and how I wanted to make my patients feel. As a first generation American I know the magnitude a single act of kindness can have not only in somebody’s day to day, but ultimately on the trajectory of their lives. My father is an immigrant, and his story has shaped my life and still to this day is my motivation to become somebody that leaves a mark in the lives of others, My father grew up as 1 of 9 children to a single mother in an extremely poor village in Ghana, West Africa. When my father was 7 years old, he remembers a Medical Missions group entering his village and giving him his first toothbrush. Little did those Doctors and volunteers know, my father would one day make it out of his impoverished circumstances and become an extremely successful Doctor in The United States of America. Out of seemingly bleak circumstances a beautiful picture of hope was painted because of somebody’s decision to follow their heart, act in faith, and support complete strangers half way across the world. My father has never forgotten the acts of kindness demonstrated by the Medical Missions volunteers that day, and I pray that they realize that the little boy they gave that toothbrush to that day grew up to be an amazing, capable, successful Physician that broke barrier after barrier to achieve his goals. I truly believe that their commitment to improving the lives of others changed the trajectory of my fathers life.

REIGN was created as a safe-haven for people from every walk of life to come, and not only leave looking more beautiful on the outside, but MORE importantly – to feel more seen, validated, and beautiful on the inside. “You may not always remember what somebody said, but you will always remember how they made you feel.” I live by this, and I. have intentionally hired staff that understands the role a simple interaction can have some somebody’s life. REIGN was built on faith, and is run on feeling. Being able to provide beautiful results while feeding peoples souls is what separates us from the rest- we truly see no other competition.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hi! I am Dr. Brooke Mensah; Owner and CEO of REIGN AESTHETICS and my Medical Grade Skincare line SKIN by SKN Rx. REIGN is truly revolutionizing that it means to look and feel beautiful. REIGN is the first of its kind, as it is a combined State of the Art Dental Practice combined with a fully functioning Medical Spa. I have truly pushed the envelop in the Medical Aesthetics space. I am truly considered.a trailblazer in the industry, as I am the only Dentist in the State of Texas that has been awarded a Mckesson Medical Account. I am also the only Dentist in the State that has been given a Galderma Aesthetic Account. I have been selected as a National Injecting Instructor, and I was just named Top Dentist in Dallas. I have gained a lot of notoriety for being the first to do the things that I am doing, and it feels amazing to have so much respect and support from both my Medical colleagues and my Dental counterparts. I have a big presence on social media, which I enjoy- and I have also been displayed on 5 billboards in the greater DFW area. Being young, black, and a woman is already marginalizing enough, but throw penetrating a male dominated industry into the mix, and it makes it all seem damn near impossible. There have been hard days; days where I felt like I had bit off more than I could chew, days where I’ve wondered if the uphill battle would ever be worth it- but I stand here proudly on the otherside without a shadow of a doubt that it was all worth it. Because of my platform I have been able to change the narrative for other smart, capable, knowledgeable people that look like me, or that come from a Dental background to excel in aesthetics- and for that I am most grateful and proud. If I had to give anybody advice- it would be to KEEP GOING, and don’t ever take ‘No’ for an answer. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve been told No. I am so thankful that I never let disappointment deter me from my dreams. Starting a business is NOT easy, especially for a young black small town girl from Ohio- with no connections, friends or family in the entire state of Texas. If I can do it- anybody can. All it requires is grit and tenacity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
oo! I love this question because I am a sucker for an experience! I love to go out, try new restaurants, dress up and look pretty, have a good drink and dance the night away. Being an extremely social person, the first thing I did when I moved to Dallas was GO OUT! I went to sporting events, brunches, Sunday Funday’s (After Church of course), and nightclubs- I met SO many people. Because my network grew exponentially- I met a lot of the restaurant and club owners and became really close with them. Athough my life has settled down so much since 2018 when I moved to Dallas now that I am a wife, a business owner, and a mom- I still use my royalties when I have the urge for some fun.

Our mornings would always start of with Pilates at either Solidcore, One Lagree, or Shine Hot Pilates, we would get a smoothie at JuiceLand or a Pressed Juice and leisurely walk through Knox or Highland Park. For lunch we would go to Hudson House or Al Biernats, and for dinner we would head to Knox for some fine dining options like Maison Chinoise ( my personal fave), Georgie’s, Mister Charles, Le Bibloquet, or Ziziki’s- or head to my tried and true favorites like Drake’s or Nick and Sams.

As for dancing, I am a Latin girl, so I love the Rumba live band at Maison Chinoise on Saturdays, and Komodo is also a fun time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All Glory to God. I can truly say from the outside looking in that my life doesn’t make sense. All of the open doors, achievements, and beautiful human beings I have met along my journey HAD to be divine intervention; I truly believe that. As I shared earlier, I am a first generation American and the stories of both of my parents are stitched into the very fabric of my being, and have been the single source of motivation I’ve had to BE somebody, and DO something significant in this life. I was a Division 1 Athlete at THE Ohio State University during college, and the friendships I was able to cultivate with the people on the team also shaped my reality. They pushed me past my ‘limits’ and believed in me so much that they spoke life into my dreams and aspirations. They would often tell people that I was going to be a Dentist FAR before I had even taken a single pre-med exam; and that crazy faith that they had in me translated into a beautiful faith I developed in myself.
