We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Theodore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Soul Image 365 helps women and girls learn how to feel confident in their own skin.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Soul Image 365 specializes in empowering women and girls to cultivate self-assurance through media literacy education. Media literacy gives people the ability to critically analyze stories presented in the mass media and to determine their accuracy or credibility. Here’s an example of how I use it to teach my clients. If there’s an editor of a magazine after a photo shoot, they could take one model’s eyes, another model’s nose, and another model’s mouth and put it on the model that was actually at the shoot and call that beautiful.

We also live in a world with Instagram and filters that can help people alter their beauty. My objective is to help women and girls attain a sense of liberation, enabling them to define their standards of beauty. I got into this work because growing up, I had low self-esteem because I didn’t meet the media’s standard of beauty.
The sad thing is I’m not the only one. Research by the Dove Campaign found that 92% of teen girls want to change something about their bodies. Another study found that 1 in 4 girls have been diagnosed with depression, and eating disorders and are cutting because of the amount of pressure they feel. I know how these girls feel and I thank God because He took me on a journey of healing and He gave me the tools to help other women and girls get the same amount of healing. Once I healed at the age of 16 I encouraged those around me. In 2014 I created my Soul Image 365 Instagram page to encourage those around me and, I toyed with the idea of turning it into a business.
In 2020 I got certified as a life coach. Now I work with young girls and women through 1:1 and group coaching. I’m also working to become a contractor for our local school district to provide classes through my sessions. The negative effects of media on girls have skyrocketed in the last 10 years. I hope that my programs help women and girls feel comfortable in their skin. I put in a lot of effort to ensure that my programs foster a sense of community and provide a safe space for my clients as they embark on the journey to develop a positive self-image.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m fairly new to the DFW area but, if my friend was visiting I would take them to three outdoorsy tourist areas. The first is Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. It’s such a beautiful place and there are a lot of fun events that take place there from live music to lightscape around the holidays. Next is the Fort Worth Zoo. The Fort Worth Zoo is nationally acclaimed and ranks number one as the best zoo in Texas and number five by USA Travel. The first time I went there it was a lot of fun and you can get a lot closer to the animals than the zoos back home. The last place I’d take my friend is The Dallas Aquarium. It is similar to the Fort Worth Zoo but, the kicker is it’s inside and if my friend came to visit in the summer we could enjoy seeing the animals while avoiding the heat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shout-out to my sister Brittany Knowles and my mom Brenda L. Richard. My sister has always been there for me and is one of my biggest cheerleaders. When I found that things were hard in my business or when I didn’t think I was making a difference she would surprise me with shared content or a word of encouragement and that helped keep me going. My mom is also very supportive. In high school I was on the dance team and the parents got sweatshirts with their child’s names on them. My mom’s sweatshirt said Angel’s Mom on it. I was in high school 16 years ago and she still wears that sweatshirt today. I am grateful for all the support my mom and sister have given me and continue to give me every day.
