Meet Sevgi Mülayim | illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sevgi Mülayim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sevgi, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
It’s not my final goal in my career, but I would like to work on a cartoon series in my own style. A cartoon that was left entirely to my own imagination, without any intervention by the producers. My ultimate goal is to be a very good illustrator, but there is no end to this. In the field of art, we cannot make a sentence like “it just happened” because it is necessary to constantly add something, as if infinite.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an illustrator (I graduated from sculpture, but I could not continue) and I am an illustrator who does his job with love and passion. My work and my life are intertwined and inspired by each other. This helps me progress towards becoming a more productive artist. Being a productive person also connects me to life. I didn’t get to where I am today easily. First of all, you need to have financial support so that you can continue. I had a hard time with this issue. As a child of a poor family, I had to find my own way. Of course, I am not in the position I want, but I am still working hard for this.
In order to overcome difficulties, I think it is necessary to take life a little bit. Otherwise, encountering bad people and business life together can make life unbearable.
The nickname “sevgibiraciksevgi” came into being as my drawings found their own style. We live in a bad world. Of course, there are good things, but there are more bad things. I draw good and virtue, especially in children’s books, because they grow up in a world where they will see evil anyway. Life is not rosy, but the world they will encounter is boring anyway, but I want them to be happy, at least in my books. So I will continue to spread love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Actually, it depends on what that friend of mine likes. If he/she is a museum enthusiast like me, I would of course take him to the magnificent ancient city of Ephesus and Pergamon. Then we would go to Aphrodisias, which was a little further away. Watching the sunset there will be an unforgettable experience. Then we start the conversation with any dessert and coffee, which are indispensable for me.
I love people who know how to have fun, laugh and be happy in any environment.
The places I would enjoy most would be Italy, France and Spain, apart from the historical places and magnificent nature in Turkey.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course there is, Onur Mülayim He is a jazz guitarist. He is definitely one of the people who deserve to be recognized the most.
