We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Levan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
NuWell Network is a culmination of working in the healthcare industry for over a decade combined with witnessing chronic burn out among healthcare providers. I started my career as a nurse in the pediatric ICU and then obtained my master’s degree in Anesthesia. I’ve been entrepreneurial since I was little and noticed throughout my healthcare career there was a disconnect between quality staff, managing burn out and connecting with other healthcare workers to create community.
I co-founded NuWell Network with simplistic goals; to provide wellness and career support to healthcare professionals, connection with local medical centers and sustainable employment solutions.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
NuWell Network is a healthcare recruitment and wellness company based in Dallas, Texas.
We offer recruiting services for permanent, full-time healthcare positions in Dallas mainly focused but not limited to nurses and APRNs.
We also offer wellness events with the goal of building a strong healthcare community that congregates and is able to support each other in the changing healthcare industry. We do not limit these events to nurses only, but intentionally welcome all healthcare workers.
NuWell Network was born out of witnessing the need for community, conversation, and connection with others in the medical field. Although I had seen this throughout my career, it became especially apparent during the Covid-19 pandemic. I was sent to the ICUs from the OR to manage ventilators and consistently witnessed high levels of burn-out, exhaustion, PTSD, and despair from healthcare workers. A lot of healthcare workers, not just nurses, have experienced PTSD. Witnessing this created an understanding that this is not an issue limited to the hospital I was working at. It’s a healthcare culture issue that affects most of the USA.
Within the last 18 months we’ve also co-authored a burn out management book in collaboration with a therapist. We hope it can be a tool to bring empowerment and stability to the healthcare industry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a couple of people who have made a world of difference in my life journey. First, my family. My parents both exhibit incredible work ethic and integrity with their daily decisions to create a life of excellence. My father is a retired physician, and I would see him work religiously to take care of his patients, tirelessly analyzing their needs from an educated and gentle eye and treated them with kindness and integrity. Also, witnessing him intentionally show up for us as a family, my mother, and his patients garnered a tremendous amount of respect and challenged me to live a life of intentionality and dedication.
My mother is a champion for the underserved; those that needed support and help in the community. She aided in time, effort, creative energy, and acts of service. Her constant love and approach to service modeled a life I want to emulate, and I aspire to show the same level of compassion, empathy, understanding and joy.
Another person who has been highly influential in my life is my anesthesia program director Tom. He recognized the potential in me to become a CRNA. Acceptance into an anesthesia program was highly competitive, and he believed in me when I was still a relatively new nurse, unsure of myself and going through a dark period in my life. Without him and his belief in my abilities my life wouldn’t be where it is today.
