We had the good fortune of connecting with Peeler Howell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peeler, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an career in the gallery business when it became obvious to me I wouldn’t be professionally satisfied doing anything that didn’t involve working around art. Even as a child visiting galleries with my parents and my sister I used to think it would be fun to “hang out’ in an art gallery all day and have that be one’s work environment. I didn’t then appreciate how much actual work was involved, but it did turn out to be true. It’s a dynamic, fun, and stimulating place to spend one’s days.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My gallery, J. Peeler Howell Fine Art, is a contemporary art gallery and exhibits exceptional fine art from established artists across the globe. What sets us apart is that the fundamental aesthetic philosophy of the gallery allows for a natural evolution of taste and is not limited in any way. Realism, abstraction, figurativism, minimalism, among other styles, are all considered and included in the work presented.

My path to this career was somewhat circuitous, sometimes easy, and sometimes more difficult. Perseverance, fortitude, support, and encouragement all contributed to overcoming any challenges. And there were some. I think the lessons learned include that any challenge would be almost insurmountable without those four components: perseverance, fortitude, support, and encouragement.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have to hit the museum district. Fort Worth has a world renowned museum district. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, The Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and The Kimbell Art Museum are all next door to each other. Each of them is world class. The Stockyards in the Northside is a fun spot for tourists, a little bit of what makes Fort Worth “Cowtown.” Good food is always a must. Benito’s, Ellerby Fine Foods, and St. Emilion are fun spots with great food. And the Railhead for some bar-b-que.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. We spent the summers of my childhood taking long road trips full of detours to small galleries in small towns and plenty of interesting off the beaten path destinations. As an adult they were also fully supportive of my decision to dramatically change career paths and get into the gallery business.
