We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Hardcastle and Helena Carrothers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah Hardcastle and Helena Carrothers, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We’ve been friends for many years and each have our own separate businesses (Bewitched Kitsch and Life Light Healing). We were discussing products we wanted to make that didn’t exactly fit the aesthetic of our own brands and decided to create a partnership. From there everything fell into place seamlessly. Hemlock Haus is more than a store. It is a space where community is built one step at a time and ensuring we continue to be a safe space for all.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hemlock Haus is a metaphysical shop that creates items for other like-minded individuals to use in their practice and also bring a “witchy” aesthetic into their homes. We make jewelry, bath and body items, ritual and altar tools, and home decor, just to name a few. In doing all of this we combine astrology, nature, moon phases, and more to bring intention and magic to our products. We also host classes and a monthly market called Panther City Misfits Market, held on the last Sunday of the month.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since we are a small business we spend a lot of time supporting other small businesses. We’d definitely visit the antique stores around the area, as there is always something interesting and unique to find. Coffee stop at Lazy Daisy or Tea from Leaves. Tacos are always a must and we often get them from Rusty’s or Belenty’s. BBQ from Dayne’s Craft BBQ. The Stockyards are always a good time when people are visiting. A stroll along the Magnolia strip is sure to land us at one of the many amazing restaurants and dessert shops. We often frequent local markets and would probably wind up at one in support of our artisan friends. And, of course, a stop at the Coyote Drive-In to catch a movie.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are so fortunate to have an amazing community of family and friends who support us and continually spread awareness of our store.

I have purchased several things from Hemlock Haus. They make beautiful high quality items. It also is a great place for gifts. I highly recommend this shop!
