We had the good fortune of connecting with Naviéh Townsend and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naviéh, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Taking a chance on leaving my job to pursue my business full time. It was scary and nerve wrecking, but working for a company that was taking a toll on me mentally and physically, was not okay. So I took a leap of faith, trusting God and that my entrepreneur journey will take me far in life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am still not where I want to be, but with the correct guidance, I will get where I need to be. Having your own business is not easy, especially without mentorship, I am still learning as I go, and going through trials and tribulations at the same time. The hardest part of trying to run a business, is getting your work noticed, finding the correct vendor, and trying to appeal to the correct audience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to do in the DFW area, the list is endless. To start off I would recommend “The Common Table” for their hip pop brunch, and mimosa tower. The music is excellent, the food is magnificent and everyone is so kind even the customers. Next for something more adventurous, “Go Ape Go” best zip lining experience ever and will give you a rush, I always try the “Tarzan” obstacle, for the best experience. For fun and socializing I do recommend 7th street in Fort Worth, great for socializing, meeting new people and dancing. Klyde Warren park is also a go to hangout spot of mine, great place to read and the food trucks are amazing! Most of all I love the secret speak easy’s around the city, always a thrill to attend. Last but not least, “Delta Charlie’s Bar & Grill,” they have great food and afterwards, a beautiful plane ride around Dallas at night, romantic and beautiful at the same time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a big thank you and shoutout to my mother, if it wasn’t for her, I would have never started my own business. I would also like to get a big shoutout to the natural hair community, if it wasn’t for you all I wouldn’t know how to style my hair or even maintain it.
