We had the good fortune of connecting with Hacer Selin Cebesoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hacer Selin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I can say that I started walking this path when I was a child, because as far back as I can remember I was drawing on the street, in the margins of notebooks or books at school, and when I started to get to know myself I realized that drawing was my best way of expression, but it was like keeping a diary for me, it was not a serious career goal. That’s why I had many detours on this path that I took my first step on in my childhood, and we had just entered the pandemic period when I decided to choose an artistic path only. At that time, I was making academic career plans in another department at the university, and when I ignored the books I had to read during the long time we stayed at home and started drawing again so I realized that I should never leave this line again. Since then, I have been continuing/pursuing to build my own creative story.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First of all, I’ve always loved cartoon characters (especially the disproportionate ones), asymmetrical shapes and using colors. The effect of these can be seen in my artworks and I’m quite excited about my future works all the time. Secondly, I’m on my way right now, it’s not easy trying to walk on this line, never will be but I’m happy to be in this spot because one thing I have learnt so far is that if you choose a path with passion, you should not be in search, you should always look ahead and work, then you feel liberated and you can see your way forward better.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There was a scene that I liked very much in a tv series I watched. A few close friends were sitting in the garden of the house they rented by the sea and having fun and sweet conversations about life. I think I would have liked to chat with my best friend in such a small coastal town as well while swimming in the sea during the day and walking around the streets of the city in the evenings.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, of course there is. I want to dedicate my shoutout to everyone who is involved in creative world because there are many people and works that inspire me. I am grateful to them.
