We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryson Funk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryson, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The musical talent in DFW is so incredibly strong. However, the support structure around those artists is minimal. There are so many talented artists who have the voice and songwriting chops but are unsure of what to do next. Crescendo was created to be that unbiased support for these artists. We want to be that trusted voice that any artist at any level can go to for neutral and unbiased advice.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s been a journey for sure. I first pursued my own music career and performed with several different bands in the early 2010’s. While pursuing my own craft, I also got into Talent Scouting and Talent Development for a national talent development company. I was able to travel around the states scouting and developing singers/actors/models for 9 years. This stage helped me hone in on what great talent looks like. I was able to see thousands of individuals within the full spectrum of talent.
From there, my wife and I started a live music series called Loft Stories. This series was a “listening room” style show for local talent. It was held in a watch making studio in Deep Ellum and would showcase a curated lineup of 3 local artists. The unique thing about these shows is that each one was centered around a specific genre of music and when possible, we would bring in full bands. We always kept the talent level very high. If you wanted to perform at Loft Stories, we had to see you perform live at another venue first. This ensured that we knew exactly what we were bringing to our own show. We ran that from 2017-2020 before covid shut it down.
During covid, there was little to no entertainment work available so I started working for an Agtech startup. Even though this move was out of necessity, it proved to be invaluable. I learned so much about the startup and tech spaces. I was able to manage and develop large teams, handle large budgets, market a $100+ mil company and gain insight into business development.
Now coming full circle, I’m coming back to the music industry with Crescendo but I’m able to bring so much more knowledge and expertise in building and developing businesses as well as artists. In the end, a career artist is a small business and needs to be treated like one. At Crescendo, we are able to merge the creative with the business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough one. DFW is so big and there are so many areas to experience. If you’re going to Fort Worth, I would stop by Magnolia street. There are some great bars and food options there as well as the stockyards. They still run cattle through the Main Street every day. I would also check out the water gardens in downtown. They are a unique feature for sure.
In Dallas, a few must stop areas are the Bishop Arts district, Deep Ellum and White Rock lake. If you happen to be in White Rock during the evening you HAVE TO stop at Lounge Here. It’s a beautiful lounge in a nondescript strip mall. If you didn’t know it was there, you would 100% miss it.
I am definitely biased when it comes to what to do for fun. The answer is always music. There are different sounds in each area of DFW and you could spend weeks experiencing it all.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ooooof. There are so many. My wife and parents have always been incredibly supportive. When I first expressed interest in the creative at 8 years old, my parents immediately supported me in both words and actions. They poured so much time and money into my career and are a huge part of why I am here. My wife Meagan Funk is also in the entertainment industry and is always there to bounce ideas off of. She has great insight into trends and individuals. Through our marriage I’ve learned to trust her implicitly.
