Meet Relicia Morrison | Music Producer, Songwriter, & Independent Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Relicia Morrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Relicia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting IndieVation LLC was being a music producer independently for 8 years. The music industry is cut throat and oversaturated. It’s harder to be successful independently; I know this first hand. Within enduring the indie journey, I’ve come across a lot of other indie artists and musicians who bare the same struggles as well. The main issue with being independent is the lack of financial backing. I created IndieVation to BE that support that has been missing. It’s been a slow start but great things take time, especially when you are doing them right. Our goal is to raise money to essentially give it away to independents who are in the music, art, and gaming industries. There is so much talent within the arts but most will never break the surface because of a lack of materials, finances, and resources. We are striving to build a community and network that caters to the independent creators of these industries.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So, my name is Relicia Morrison but I am musically known as RelliKay. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Music and graduated as Valedictorian of my class in 2020. I have been a music producer, songwriter, and independent artist for 8 years. The journey began as a hobby and in my Senior year in high school (2015), I did a mentorship for music production and I knew then that it was a part of my purpose. In the beginning, it was not easy. No one takes a female in music production seriously unless she makes herself more masculine. However, I never did that. I always did my own thing. The main way I overcame challenges was to always study to show myself approved. My talent always spoke loud and validation wasn’t needed most times. Along the way, I have learned to trust myself and my gifts. God has revealed to me more aspects of my purpose that goes beyond music and I am most excited for that. I feel that these past 8 years have been training for the bigger territory that God is ushering me into. Which brings to me elaborate a bit on my new business, IndieVation LLC. IndieVation is a rising organization and network that seeks to provide materials, finances, and resources to independent artists in the music, art, and gaming industries. So far, IndieVation has sponsored two music videos that have been released recently and we hope to do the same for many other projects for different artists. Overall, I would like the world to know that God is doing a new thing and I am happy to be a part of the process. Independents, brace yourselves. I am developing something special for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, we would be learning more about this city together, LOL. I have not been out as much as I have liked to, even though I’ve been here for about 2 years. I went to Cidercade a year ago and had a great time, so I would definitely take my friend there. Other than that, we would explore new food places and hangout spots together. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my parents for instilling the foundation of Jesus Christ within me. I would also like to thank those who have been supporting me in my 8 year music journey. It does not go unnoticed.
