We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan and Kate Yarter of TheBazaarStudio.com and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dylan and Kate! What was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Our small business and art studio, The Bazaar Studio, located in Fort Worth and online, is the embodiment of our shared artistic journey. It’s a manifestation of our passion for art and our dedication to self-expression. We saw an opportunity to not only express ourselves more fully through our art but also to share our original and unique pieces with a wider audience. Our works draw deep inspiration from our life experiences, love for travel, rich cultures we’ve encountered and the profound beauty of nature. For us, art is a powerful medium for expressing our perceptions of the world and we believe in its ability to connect and inspire.

In founding The Bazaar Studio, we’ve created a platform to showcase our creativity and provide a tangible form to our artistic aspirations. Our shop is an eclectic collection of our original works, ranging from canvas paintings and art prints to home textiles, accessories, and handmade goods. Each item is a labor of love, a piece of our journey and an expression of our individual artistic styles. We take immense pride in creating one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect our diverse inspirations and artistic philosophies.

This journey isn’t just about running a business for us, it’s a deeply personal endeavor. It’s about sharing a part of ourselves with the world, staying true to our artistic visions, and creating pieces that are not just aesthetically pleasing, but also deeply reflect our unique experiences and perspectives. We aspire for our art to evoke thought, inspire a deep sense of wonder and captivate imaginations.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Dylan and Kate Yarter are the talented artist duo and founders of The Bazaar Studio. Their artistic journeys, although different in origin and style, converge in their shared passion for expression and creativity.

Kate Yarter, an expressionist painter, grew up in Arkansas with an innate love for nature and the world around her. Her artistic journey began as a young girl, but it was her extensive travels throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia that truly shaped her as an artist. These experiences, combined with her love of nature, deeply inspire her work.

Kate’s creative process mirrors the beautiful chaos of nature she is inspired by. Starting with a blank canvas and only a color palette in mind, she lets the botanicals organically take shape. Her process is both beautiful and energetic, brought to life by her love for free-form and Impasto style painting. This unique approach, combined with her imaginative perspective and deep understanding of color, allows her to create works that are not only visually beautiful but emotionally captivating.

Kate is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in Apparel Product Development. She has enjoyed a successful career as an apparel and home textiles designer for many Fortune 500 companies and global brands. However, her desire to more freely express and grow as an artist led her to co-found The Bazaar Studio alongside her husband, Dylan 5 years ago.

In her art, Kate specializes in creating expressionist botanical scenes and unique expressionist portraits. Pulling inspiration from the diverse environments she has encountered on her travels, her work is a vivid tapestry of the natural world. Whether the work is a freeform field of wildflowers or the unusual expression of the human form, Kate’s art uniquely captivates her audience.

Her unique style, characterized by her use of vibrant colors and varied textures, sets her work apart in the world of expressionist art. As she continues to evolve as an artist, Kate’s commitment to her craft remains unwavering. She continually pushes the boundaries of her art, exploring new techniques and themes.

Dylan draws his primary inspiration from his experiences traveling to various countries in the Americas and Europe, exploring ancient and historical places. The rich history, artistry, diverse cultures, and primal aspects witnessed during these travels deeply influence his unique “Bizarre Beast” style. This fascination with the old world and its raw, instinctive elements is reflected in his collections “The Bizarre Beasts” and “Art Brutes”, where he explores the minimalistic yet beastly characteristics of living creatures.

His creative process, a blend of calmness and intensity, often starts with a blank canvas and unfolds organically as he scrapes paint onto the surface. Dylan’s distinctive use of intense colors, varied textures, unconventional tools, and a range of mediums are all part of what sets his work apart in the expressionist art world.

Another source of inspiration for Dylan comes from his personal life. Meeting his wife, Kate Yarter, and founding The Bazaar Studio has had a significant influence on his artistic journey. The shared dedication to art with Kate has continually pushed Dylan to create works that are both visually captivating and intellectually engaging. Dylan is also the father to four teenage boys, which is a source of inspiration for both imagination and “beastly” behaviors.

Looking towards the future, Dylan is inspired by the potential evolution of his ‘Beast Style’. He plans to explore new and different environments his ‘beasts’ inhabit, and incorporate elements of modern life into his work. His ongoing artistic journey, fueled by passion, support, and unwavering commitment, continues to be a rich source of inspiration as well.
