We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrena Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Audrena, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is service. At the birth of Pretty Lit Nail Bar, I knew I wanted to do excellent nails, but I also wanted every person that booked an appointment with me to have an authentic self care experience. I have had the opportunity to service and meet some truly amazing people. They pour into me just as much as I pour into them and I am so grateful. It’s my pleasure to serve and it does not go unnoticed, they show me appreciation in the most sincerest way, loyalty.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other nail technicians is that my love language is my willingness to educate each person that sits in my chair.. if you sit in my chair my clients know that I’m going tell them the truth, not what’s going to be easiest or make me the most money, but what’s best for their nail health and how to properly achieve their nail goals. I am most proud of my ability to communicate and adapt to each of my clients personalities. I believe I got where I am today because I work based in n passion and not profit. I am a firm believer in the saying if you follow your passion the money will come. I want the world to know that Pretty Lit Nail Bar is not a traditional nail salon, it was built to reach anyone who wants to put self care at the forefront, it was built for anyone struggling to choose themselves, it was built for healing, love, and self expression through art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m naturally a homebody, but if my best friend comes to town we are definitely visiting Gloria’s Latin Cuisine for a Margarita Meltdown, Hotworx, Sandaga 813, The Star, and Legacy West for some retail therapy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shout out my support system especially my mom, my family, and my two best friends. When I started this journey I took a giant leap of faith. I left what some would call, “job security” to pursue my dream, and I’m sure they were each internally scared for me, but they never let it show. They dived in and road the wave with me, showed me an enormous amount of love and support, they pushed me beyond the limits I had for myself. Bold faith is what they had in me, I am forever grateful for their contribution.
