We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Correa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priscilla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business when I was a senior in high school, which is why I came up with the idea of making grad caps! I didn’t know anyone who made grad caps. I knew I wanted one since I was graduating in 2022. Which is why I started the idea to make grad caps. My mom was the first one to tell me I should do them and all types of grad items to sell. She pushed me to do something I enjoyed and i’ll forever be grateful to have her support every year. I then thought of grad stoles. Which are custom items I make for those grads who want to show off their accomplishment’s, loved ones, and school spirit. I then realized what I wanted this business to be, a go to for your every needs in high school. This 2022-2023 school year I began making homecoming mums, grad caps, grad stoles, grad leis, money leis, senior night sashes, corsages, and boutonnieres for prom.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Craftsidecreations is a latina owned small business of a 20 year old. Growing up I always knew I wanted to do my own thing. 20 years later here I am. I experienced a lot of hobbies but crafting just felt right to me. I just don’t make crafts as in t shirts, cups or other items like others do. The high school essentials that a senior or junior would need is what sets me apart from others. Making grad items for those seniors graduating is mainly what im known for in DFW. Im not just a grad cap maker as what others would call me. I also make homecoming mums which are HUGE in Texas! I make them for all grade levels, so any high school student could order. Don’t need a mum? Thats alright Juniors or Seniors can order Corsages and Boutonnieres for prom. A year ago I graduated and knew I wanted to do something that would make a fellow graduate happy. I learned new stuff this year, although im not perfect I learn and one day when im successful enough I will be in the right path. It wasn’t easy doing this business in high school. I still had final exams and still had to pass my state board exam. I failed my state board twice which left me to push myself to be good at what I do today. Im proud of myself for pulling through these two years, also proud of the person im becoming. Lets not forget all the nice supporting people i’ve met along the way. Any high school student in need of any thing, ill always be your go to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I know theres tons of chilli’s everywhere, but first were headed to there first. Yes we’re ordering a 3 for me which is basically a drink, an appetizer, & an entree. Then we will head to hobby lobby to grab some supplies to paint totes or paint on a canvas. I actually love painting its a relaxing hobby. then head home and watch modern family. There isn’t much to do in Fort Worth but definitely a fun day to me and my best friend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are two amazing people who deserve it all for pushing me forward! If it wasn’t for my mom Julia Cruz. She was a single mother who tried her best to give me anything and everything I needed or wanted. She was a person I could talk to about anything. She has supported me from day one giving me ideas and buying my supplies in the beginning. Without her I wouldn’t be doing any of this. My boyfriend Luis Estrada was the second one to inspire me, with his help I wouldn’t be here either. He is the one who takes the orders down to my customers, he models the homecoming mums for me if i ask him too, and helps me with some items if I need it. These two are the reason I am here today growing! Ill forever be thankful for them both, I love them with all my heart. I hope to make them proud one day when im right where I need to be. I also want to give credit to my grandma Gloria Gonzalez who bought me my machine for my 19th birthday. Lastly to my boyfriends sister Yanaiza Estrada for hanging up my flyers at her school when she was a senior and helping me give my customers their orders when I couldn’t be there.
