We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Vela and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My grandmother inspires me to be more and be better. She did not get to finish school (most highest grade was 2nd grade) but she never let that stop her. She worked multiple jobs while caring for others and never stopped going. She is the true definition of the Godly woman I would like to become. Because of her I am where I am today and I am forever grateful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always have seen how many people treated my grandma when asking for help and not knowing English. She cared for 7 grandchildren and I just knew that I had to be better and help those around me. Now I play a role in my community by advocating for those and fighting against not only hunger but other obstacles the communities may face across North Texas. I want others to know that we can not change things over night but we can do so much together by simply being kind to one another. You never know when you will need help, so lets treat each other with the same treatment we want to receive.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas Downtown has many places you can visit that are beautiful, one thing I said I would like to do is get out more and explore. The Klyde Warren Park and local parks in Mesquite are very beautiful as well to grab a bite , drink a cup of coffee & conversate with one another.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and my community play a huge role in my career and life. Without my support system life would be even harder than it already was and I appreciate everyone around me, whether it was good or bad experience. These experiences help to shape me in to who I am today.
