We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Oyeku and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Hello Readers! Today, I’d like to share with you my thought process and motivations behind starting my own business. Technology and networking have always had the potential to make a real impact on people’s lives, and that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I’ve spent the last ten years of my life working in the IT industry with various companies from Verizon, Deloitte, to Google which is where I am currently. Over time I developed a range of skills and knowledge beyond the IT industry from digital marketing, product management, video production, photography, website design, and other forms of content creation.
However, I found that there weren’t many technology groups or networking opportunities that were diverse or accessible enough for people in my demographic. That’s why I decided to create a platform to simplify the process, which is now known as MixerCloud. My current focus is on bridging the gap between people, skills, companies, and investors, and empowering those who feel underserved in the tech industry.
I believe that everybody should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and make a real difference, and that’s why I chose to pursue this venture. I hope that one day, my business will be able to help people reach their full potential.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Something that sets me apart from others is my unrelenting work ethic to reach the goals I set for myself and the sheer amount of risks I’m willing to take. I’m fueled by the overwhelming support of friends and MixerCloud supporters who believe in me and what I’m trying to achieve in the long run, and I’m incredibly proud of the success stories they have shared with me throughout this journey.
MixerCloud has gotten to where it is today due to my willingness to invest more in the quality of the events I host, and learning to trust people with tasks that I used to do alone when I was a one-man band. This has not been easy at all, and I only expect it to get harder as I continue to build out the team and expand. However, challenge accepted. I overcome these challenges by keeping my eye on the big picture and the people counting on MixerCloud to continue to thrive.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned throughout this is to always have a plan A, B, and C (sometimes even a plan D, haha!).
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Growing up as the youngest of three siblings, I was able to witness firsthand the strong work ethic of my parents and my siblings. They have always demonstrated the importance of hard work and dedication, and it is something that has stayed with me.
I am also fortunate to have amazing friends who are always encouraging me and pushing me to do better. They are always there to listen and give me the energy to continue my journey. I am truly thankful to have such a great support system in my life.
My family and friends have been key to helping me reach where I am today and I could not be more thankful for their guidance, love and support.
