We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Acosta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, how do you think about risk?
One must take risks period. One cannot hope to have a fruitful life without risk. Anything thats worth it takes time, hard work, and most important of all, discipline. Life is legitimately a game and you start at level 1. There’s two options, you either do what it takes to build your character up so you can fight those bosses and get that loot or be content without seeing everything the world has to offer. People are going to think you’re crazy, delusional, or just straight up stupid but I’ve first hand seen what taking risks can lead to. The destination didn’t come overnight, while others are out chasing cheap thrills and being comfortable the people at the top were going through it while building their foundation, getting out of their comfort zone, and chasing the jackpot relentlessly.

Risk taking in my life has gotten me very very far and I’m only 24. I didn’t come from a high income nor middle class family. Most of my life I was poor, my family has been evicted more times than I can count, I’ve gone to bed hungry, been homeless, have had the lights disconnected, and the water turned off. My father walked out on my family and I at the age of 12, I’ve had to live through the repercussions of my father’s decisions. I’ve had no choice in my life but to take risks for the sake of my family. Doing what 99% of people don’t do is the reason why I’ve been able to support my mother, have a roof over my head, food in my stomach, a nice car to drive, clothes on my body, and even a song on Law & Order.

I have a lot more in the works and by the end of 2023 I’ll be leagues above where I am currently, all because I decide to be proactive, all because I’m not afraid of failure or what other people think. I was living in my car at the age of 21 and when I turn 25 I’ll be ready to buy a house. That wouldn’t be the case if I took the safe route, that wouldn’t be the case if blamed others for my predicament at the time. Take the bull by the horns and chose your hard.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently wear a lot of hats, I’m an artist, web developer, and do social media marketing.

I’ve had to put my music to the back burner for the time being to focus on creating multiple streams of income but I actually have a record dropping next month. I’m a rapper on my biggest achievement in that field so far is having a record on Law & Order.

I’m also a self taught web developer, didn’t go to college. I taught myself a basic kit in four months (Java Script, HTML, and CSS) despite working 12-14 hour days at the job that got me out of living in my car at the time. I was determined to improve my standard of living. Granted I was still grateful for that job, it allowed me to get an apartment.

Lastly I do social media marketing in the car niche, that has supplemented my income generously. I’m currently looking for a couple more clients but pretty soon phase 1 of my plan will be complete and I can circle back to music and a clothing business.

Making music how I want to is expensive, I love the current fans I have (not many, about 600 but I still love all of them) but I don’t want my hard work to just fall on the same ears. There’s studio time, music videos, and especially marketing… the marketing is what takes up a large chunk of money.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t go out much but there’s a couple of places I could mention. For starters 7 Doors in the Colony is such a phenomenal restaurant. From there we could hit up the Shops of Legacy and do some shopping and take some pictures. If they came on the first Saturday of the month Cars & Cantina is a must, there’s a bunch of nice cars and nice people that go there to share a passion. Not only that, it’s an amazing event to network as well. The Dallas Arboretum is a nice spot to hit and for the end of the day if theres a special occasion to celebrate Nick & Sam’s is a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God, my mother, and chess, without God I wouldn’t be where I am now. He has guided me through life and my darkest moments without me even knowing it. He has a path set for everyone and if you follow it I know you’ll find success and happiness, even if you stray from that path like I have on multiple occasions he will be there waiting for you to return.

My mother because she’s always been my rock, she’s always cheered for me even when people have tried to put me down.

Lastly believe it or not, chess has played a major role in my current position. Playing chess has made me realize the parallels between life and chess. I’ve been a lot more perspicacious about how I go about life because of the game. There’s two things I’d like to point out.

Firstly a pawn is actually very powerful, not only can it hinder your opponents moves but it can become any piece you need it to be if you get to the end of the board. That is me, I am a pawn and I’m glad I was born as such. Overcoming obstacles has shaped me into a man I would have never been had I been born a bishop, knight, or even a queen.

Secondly, no matter how much of a disadvantage you’re in theres always a best move. That translates perfectly to life, even if life has beat you down again and again pining you to a horrible situation… theres always a best move. You just gotta find it and make it.
