We had the good fortune of connecting with John Hurd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is mind your own business until your mind is your own business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Follow your heart don’t follow the charts… and that’s what makes it never easy right there to follow your heart in what can be seen as a heartless world. God is the lesson I continue to learn I continue to have principals for, I shall congratulate knowing God and self and I will walk across that stage knowing that I didn’t lose my principals for a quick buck. I want you all to know that I’m not done no matter what Google says about me or the blogs, media, press, headlines say about me because I strive beyond accolades, achievements, and modern success. My love, admiration, and discipline for the art the craft of music is why God gifts me more and more which I feel is why the people that do gravitate to me and my music gravitate to me and my music. Seeing other artists success, opportunities, chances, and outcome only inspires me to root for them as I see them branch out seeing other people grind, overly-dedicate themselves to their craft, work, art, and music has only inspired me to take no days off and no nights off mentally, personally, and spiritually. I’m most proud of my consistency my efforts to challenge myself repeatedly and how I want the next person to see what’s obtainable and what’s possible. I’m not different I’m the difference and what I put out musically, artistically, visually I want the people to walk away with something to walk their children with their husband/wife with something that’s going to inspire them to do something about it…. I’m not the 🐐 I’m the 🐘.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to WingBucket in Downtown Dallas on Main, it’s right in the center middle of downtown and it’s always a nice view on the outside if the weather ain’t acting on Texas time that is. I don’t drink but we definitely can have some Simply Apple on the side which is my favorite but if they want something much more stronger we don’t judge over here. I’d also say check out the scenery while walking around it’s some beautiful designs, murals, graffiti on the walls, the side of buildings. I’d take them to Dave & Buster’s, Main Event, or bowling at Pinstack you know to get that adrenaline going one time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost all praises go to God for giving me air another day I couldn’t call it if I counted. Thank you to Dazmyne/Tirzah Coleman/Walker for recommending you guys to reach out to me for an interview. Thank you to family & the people who inspired me, uplifted me mentally, personally, & spiritually through each step of this walk of life.
