We had the good fortune of connecting with Riisky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Riisky, how do you think about risk?
I think risk is a very needed part of life, in many different ways. Risk is ultimately what’s needed to make great leaps in life! It’s also how I like to keep life fresh. Doing things out of my comfort zone. That is what keeps my mind active and in momentum, which is oh, so important for growth, personally and professionally. When it comes to my music, I love to take risk making songs with many different sounds; even crossing genres at times. I think blending sounds from many different inspirations is how you create music that crosses genres and crosses musical boundaries. Something new that listeners can get invested in and love and hopefully be inspired from, as well. Creating something new, though, also introduces risk. The hurdles when creating new, original art are plentiful, but the payoff of a lifetime awaits you as you break through those barriers. Risk to me is the spice of life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started writing and recording original music four and a half years ago. I started with rap music and have transitioned over the years to a blend of rap, pop, and indie pop. I create all of the original vocals, mix and master them, and sound engineer any additional sounds to a blank rap or pop instrumental. I have performed in live venues throughout Texas, including performing in SXSW (South by Southwest) Music and film fest this year. My live performances as well as my music videos really tell the story and give the feel to my music. I make music that is very catchy and can apply to many different moment in life. Moments that span a range of emotions like happiness, sadness, euphoric, motivated, and energetic to mention a few. Music is my love because it blends so many different arts. I love performing vocals, filming music videos, set design, vocal engineering, social media promotion, and so many more crafts. It’s a craft with no limit to how much you can learn. It’s amazing!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week is quite a long trip to describe, but if I wanted to show a friend a good time I would start with a delicious breakfast/brunch at Bread Winners, then go to the Virgin Hotel pool (assuming it’s a Summer day) for the day. Hang at the pool getting some good drinks, getting sun, meeting people and so on. Then, get dinner at Del Frisco and end the night at nightclubs like Blum, Bottled Blonde, and Backyard.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank the Lord for always having my back and being there for me. I was lucky and blessed to have great parents who greatly shaped me into who I am today. I was raised to always treat people with politeness and kindness. This is a big contributing factor to my music where I like to stay lyrically positive, not tearing others down like unfortunately many artists do especially in the hip hop industry. I also thank everyone that has helped support my journey.
