We had the good fortune of connecting with Hyacinth Belcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hyacinth, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor in our success is to find and build great, long-lasting relationships, not only with our employees, but also with our clients. The trust that comes with growing together is a superpower for all stakeholders – some have been with us for over 15 years!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an event production business, Onstage Systems took a huge hit especially at the height of the pandemic when strict health protocols were in place. We were operating at 80% below normal revenues, forcing us to cut down on operations and look for new streams of revenue. One way we revived our business was by organizing a live, drive-in concert series called the Capricorn Drive-In every weekend for two months. Not only did this event help our business, but it also generated work for local musicians and other staffers. Covid (and a complete shutdown of our industry) taught us that you can always find a way if you still believe in your purpose. Was it hard? Yes is an understatement. But belief in what you do, and explanations of how to do things more efficiently have been helpful.

An ongoing lifeline and source of inspiration for me is Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, where I learned critical financial education that helped keep me afloat and connected me with thousands of entrepreneurs whose innovation in the wake of the pandemic has never failed to inspire me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Best Friend comes to Dallas: We would go to some of my favorite vegan restaurants in town. Kalachanji’s for lunch and spend some time in their Zen Garden while eating a delicious meal. Belse resturant, El Palote and Jeff’s Vegan will all be visited that week! I would take my friend hiking at the Cedar Ridge Outer Preserve followed by a full day at Spa Castle, basking in the saunas and the pools. If the Factory had a good show, we would go to Deep Ellum and spend a night there listening to and dancing to music. I’d love to Visit Free Man and Deep Ellum Art co for some additional entertainment over the weekend. ON a sunny, cooler day, taking a walk through Dallas and Fort Worth Arboretum would be icing on the cake!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Business Advisor, Ben B., has kept me sane and helped me and my team look at our business through a different lens. My Vistage group has also been very helpful this past year in keeping me grounded through what has been the single most difficult years of our (work) lives.
