We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessie Craig and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working a corporate job that wasn’t fun or something I necessarily enjoyed doing. After planning my own wedding and helping friends and family plan theirs, I realized I had a knack for wedding planning, and more importantly, I LOVED it. I did this for a while as a hobby/side hustle and finally decided to jump in with both feet instead to do it full time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
According to Plan is my wedding planning company, based in DFW, although I have done some weddings in different areas like Houston and Destin, FL. Getting to the point of owning my own planning business has been a process. Just like every other entrepreneur, you have to bide your time, plan for the worst, and try to persevere through obstacles. I’m typically adverse to risk, so leaving my corporate job (and a steady paycheck) to do wedding planning full time was super out of my comfort zone but I’m so glad I did it as I’m so much happier helping couples fulfill their wedding dreams rather than staring at excel spreadsheets all day.
Helping potential clients see the value in hiring a wedding planner, being able to relieve some stress during the planning process, and helping them have a magical wedding day is why I do what I do. Seeing the look on their faces at the end of the night, and hearing their compliments about how well everything went, makes my job worth every minute of work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just love Fort Worth and the nearby areas. There is so much to do here regardless of whether you’re a night owl, or an early bird, or somewhere in between. If you stick close to the downtown area, there are numerous restaurants to go to, but my favorite if you’re looking for something a little fancier, is Eddie V’s. For something to do at night, the Scat Lounge, Four Day Weekend comedy club, or Pete’s Piano Bar are always a fun time. You can also just wander around Sundance Square and see what you find.
Not too far away from Fort Worth is Grapevine, and if you’re a wine lover like me, they have several wine bars/tasting rooms – some of my favorite are Sloan and Williams and Messina Hof. Plus lots of foodie options on Main Street as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband and family have been super supportive of my wedding planning goals and entrepreneurship. They pushed me to start doing it on the side when it was obvious how much I enjoyed planning. And when the timing was right, they encouraged me to jump ship from corporate and do wedding planning full time.
