We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Rednose-Uko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Our vision, mission, and values.

Our mission statement speaks levels about who we are and what we do, “Creativity is our specialty, and providing a space where creativity is designed to thrive is our mission.” For our founder, creativity was more than a bonus trait. It was a survival mechanism. As a family business, we generationally all came from our own set of “humble beginnings”. Thinking outside the box was a requirement to elevate our environment and create the lives we dreamt about. Not only for us but for people with those same (what some may call) disadvantages. Showing that nothing can overpower determination, imagination, and the favor that God placed upon us. This is why our business is based on the values of quality, integrity, and faith.

The vision behind our business is to provide you with a flawless, hassle-free, customizable experience. The Backdrop Room can be a blank slate for your photos, videos, and even events! Or it can be a fully designed, set up, and coordinated affair. It’s completely up to our clients because our clients are our number one priority.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I do a lot personally. From real estate to digital marketing, content creation, and more. But the business that was referred to you is what I’d love to focus on.

The Backdrop Room in Plano, TX – is a Creative Studio & Venue and is our first brick & mortar business. As a family, gatherings and events are near and dear to our hearts. The creativity of all the different detailed pieces hosting an event encompasses brings us true joy. Therefore, we wanted to provide a blank slate so you can bring your vision to life without all the hassle and red tape. Celebrations should be easy, and full of joy.

In the long run, we plan to become a staple in the community as a place that hosts several programs to give back, and spread the wealth of knowledge we encompass. Between the five of us, we excel in 6 different industries professionally.

I am most proud of the fact that we have overcome so much as a family, and are now at the point where our dreams are becoming our reality. We opened May 1st this year and have remained booked every weekend since. It’s an overwhelming sense of pride to know that my family believed in me enough to go thru all the struggles of opening this business and that we are now succeeding together.

Getting to this level of business was not easy in the slightest for any of us. I mean actually, it still isn’t. Let’s be clear, the climb is not over. There are so many more plans in motion. But, to answer your question – no. It was not easy. Since I am writing this on behalf of my team I’ll share my personal synopsis. Being an Entrepreneur, or as I like to call it, “Visionary” can be very rough. (If you haven’t read “Rocket Fuel” by Gino Wickman” you should!) You will have to learn to block out all the negativity, fake support, secret competitors posed as friends, and more. On top of that, you’ll have to keep your intrusive thoughts in check too. The pursuit of building a business can be such a heavy load to carry on your mental and emotional health, physical too.

This is where you have to be rooted in positivity, self-worth, and for me, my faith to overcome. While in the thick of it I would eventually have to remember that I am a child of the most high. I am blessed and highly favored even if my success did not grow farther than where it is currently. This could mean surrounding yourself with loving supportive people, or it could mean isolating yourself for a minute to get realigned within. Personally, I’d have to remember my ‘why’. I don’t do all this just for the pursuit of success, money, or recognition – don’t get me wrong it’s a part of it but it’s so much more than that. I could go on and on about this, and if you’re interested you can read my blog where I get more personal. (www.taylormadeandco.com/blog) If you are able to do these things and reconnect with your goals, keep the faith – you will succeed. Just remember your definition of success is all that matters, and it won’t happen overnight.

As for The Backdrop Room as a brand, we want to be known for our hearts. The passion we put into this business has all stemmed from our love for creativity. Our love for joy, and smiles on people’s faces. We believe that’s what this world needs more of.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve got to admit, I’m somewhat of a ‘home-body’ that loves to host & cook. But here are a few spots I’ve enjoyed.

Seven Doors – Grandscape The Colony
Puttery – Grandscape The Colony
The Ferris Wheel – Grandscape The Colony
Andrettis – Grandscape The Colony
Legacy West Food Hall
North Italia – Legacy West
Ebb & Flow – Shops at Legacy
Peppersmash – Shops at Legacy
TJ’s – Restaurant & Comedy Club in Addison
Reunion Tower – Downtown

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout would have to go to a few different people. One of my greatest blessings and privileges in life is that I have a great support system. God blessed me with two parents that truly cared, and loved me unconditionally which unfortunately was a luxury where I came from.

My mother, Robin Rednose-Lewis, is the Realest MVP. She sacrificed her career, wants, and even needs, to make sure I had everything I wanted and needed growing up. I am incapable of describing her love in words and I’m so thankful that she is now reaping all those seeds sown 10x over now. My Father, Arthur Wimberly, is the definition of a Go-Getter. He has one hell of a testimony. From the losses he suffered at such an early age to how he used it as fuel to change the narrative for his family and generations to come. I could say so much more about them, but in short – they have shaped me into who I am.

Finally, my husband, Samson Uko. Samson has been my best friend and biggest supporter from the day I met him. He took a girl with big dreams and showed me how to take risks, and navigate turning those dreams into a reality. We have survived so many trials and errors, but have also accomplished so much. Honestly, the scary thing is – we both know this is only the beginning and there is so much more growth we are capable of. I’d take it head-on with nobody else but him.
