We had the good fortune of connecting with Troy Alley III and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Troy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The process behind starting my business stemmed from my passion to help clients invest and grow generational wealth in various communities. The challenges that come with starting a business are quite well known, however like with most entrepreneurs when you see an issue, you strive to make things better. I’ve been very fortunate to have incredible mentors and colleagues that were open to share advice and criticism that assisted in encouraging me to take the first step. Most importantly, I was able to quickly understand and accept that failure is possible, but it doesn’t define the success you can ultimately achieve with a venture.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Third Generation Capital Management is an investment consulting and research firm that specializes in wealth building through investments across financial markets. In an ever-changing financial market driven by complexity and ongoing volatility, we believe prime opportunities arise through the utilization of detailed investment research and fundamental analysis. The thing that sets us apart is our commitment to providing our clients with the highest quality of investment strategies that align with our business principles. To serve our clients through the generation of substantial capital appreciation, financial education, and provide them with the opportunity to generate change through impact investing and philanthropy. We as an organization are above all built on the principle of putting our clients at the forefront of our business, developing and maintaining a strong relationship based on trust. As a result, we expect the same principles to be demonstrated in the various businesses we advise our clients to invest in.
I’m most proud of the work we do for our clients and their families, assisting them to build generational wealth through their investments. Many times, specifically in the minority community, we haven’t been exposed to financial strategy or long-term financial planning. It’s truly fulfilling to be able to see clients and their family’s financial growth and improvement through our assistance.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a challenging question as DFW has so many interesting places to visit and things to do. At first glance I would say anyone traveling to Dallas first must visit the George Bush Presidential Museum at Southern Methodist University and the John F. Kennedy Memorial in downtown. Also, attending a show at the magnificent Dallas Theater Center located in the arts district. There is a variety of cuisine to choose from some of my favorite include: Al Biernat’s, Bistro 31, Nick & Sam’s, Gemma, and Saint Ann’s. If you’re interested in sports and entertainment, then the city of Arlington has you covered with Six Flags and all our local major sport’s teams. The Fort Worth Stockyards are synonymous with cowboy history and there are many museums that highlight this, one in particular is National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum. In addition, a visit to the Modern Arts Museum in the Fort Worth arts district is definitely worth a visit.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate it to my family, specifically my father and uncle (Troy Alley Jr. and Gerald Alley). Their upbringing started in Pine Bluff, Arkansas working with my grandfather who was one of the first African American’s to run an Exxon Mobile service station. With 83 years of family entrepreneurship, the legacy continues with Con-Real’s establishment and now they are #1 African-American-owned Construction and Real Estate organization of its kind in the Southern area of the United States. Con-Real’s commitment to meeting the needs of clients throughout Texas, the South, and throughout the United States has given us the reputation as a premier organization with experience of over 3,000 projects including educational, medical, and entertainment facilities. The company is proud to have long standing relationships with public and private clients including Fortune 500 companies. Their legacy and inspiration spurred the development of my firm – Third Generation Capital Management, an investment consulting and research company based in Dallas focused on building wealth for our clientele.
