Meet Laila Smith | CEO Cykletime

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laila Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laila, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to allow me the freedom to be able to be available for my kids at any given moment especially when they need me the most in times when they’re sick or when there’s an emergency at school first and foremost but also giving me the freedom to do something I enjoy while teaching my children that investing in yourself is the best thing you can ever do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been very fortunate to work in corporate America and in my community for many years. I’ve been in the mortgage industry for over 15 years which has allowed me to interact with so many people from all walks of life and helped them in so many different ways. I’ve also had the pleasure of working with a non-profit (IWP) directly for the last two years in helping women in the community and overseas. But as we all know with mortgages the market is always fluctuating and it can be very challenging even when it’s busy or slow so I decided to do something that will give me time with my family but also allow me to provide for myself and possibly job opportunities for others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Frisco so my favorite places are all close- The Star for all things Cowboys game days, Legacy West and I love Kai bar/restaurant and for drinking and Haywire for good food. Granite Park is perfect for hanging out, fun vibe, lots of restaurants to check out and there’s a cool cigar lounge at Grandescape which is right up the street from there. Addison- Lots of bars/lounges and Improve for good comedy. Also go shopping at Stonebriar Mall.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to the women in my family especially my aunts and my children who are my biggest cheerleaders. They are a driving force in my life and maybe because they have such high expectations which comes from my awesome grandmother. She was a quiet “subtle giant”. A woman of many talents and strengths. She also taught me to never give up on learning and growing and keeping an open mind. I know that these women will never let me down. I also want to give a shout out to my husband and my friends for walking this journey with me. You’ve always been there to encourage me whether things were up or down even when I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
