Meet Myda Ali | Professional Henna Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Myda Ali and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Myda, what matters most to you?
My core values in my business are honesty, integrity, and fairness. When I was starting my business, I told myself that these will be the foundation of my venture. I’ve grown up learning the importance of these values and understand that sometimes you might not see immediate success while doing the right thing, it will always bode well for the long run.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Myda, and I am a self-taught, professional henna artist based in Dallas, also catering nationwide. I specialize in South Asian bridal henna (also known as “mehndi” in Urdu/Hindi language), but also provide services for groups such as corporate events, parties (birthday, bridal showers,), holiday occasions, or a “just-because” self-care and self-pampering. Lots of clients come to me to get henna in celebration of their birthday because they want to feel beautiful, and I love that they treat themselves in this way, similar to going for a mani-pedi.
I began my business in 2020, in the midst of Covid and it was a challenge to find exposure when things were under a lockdown. I took this downtime as an opportunity to teach myself about the henna business, to learn and grow in the areas I lacked in, researched the business side and how to create a successful brand; so it served as a very reflective time for myself. And with persistence, I managed to overcome the challenges during this time and find growth in my business in more than one ways. It took lots of time and effort – but I am very proud to see how far I’ve managed to come. I am proud to see myself become a better artist day by day with continuous practice and learning. I believe in myself that I will do greater things and continue to take risks that would help me grow even more.
I learned very quickly that patience, consistency, and practice will be key in this business and as an artist. To become successful, to have a successful brand, it requires a lot of energy and focus and you do eventually see the fruits of your hard work and dedication in due time.
I love the work that I do. I love creating beautiful art for my clients and especially my brides for their big days. I look forward to meeting all the people that I work with; from my clients, to co-vendors, hosts, etc. Mehndi by Myda is a brand full of passion and dedication.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love anything outdoorsy and adventurous, and sadly Dallas doesn’t have a lot of things to do for such people, lol. But some of the spots I would recommend for a nice stroll and ambiance are Frisco Square, The Adriatica, Uptown, Vitruvian Park. I enjoy going bowling or to Top Golf at other times for some fun activities with the family and friends. One of my favorite brunch spots is Yolk in Dallas downtown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, family, and friends definitely deserve this shout out. They’ve been extremely encouraging and motivating since the beginning. They believed in me the most when I lacked confidence in myself and my work. They are my cheerleaders when they see my work on social media, and they push me to challenge myself and try new things beyond my comfort zone. It is one of the biggest blessings to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people who spread so much positivity. In addition to that, I have some fellow henna artists who have been extremely helpful and have guided me as I was starting out and continue to be there in support.
