We had the good fortune of connecting with Hillot “Suavé Ice” Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hillot “Suavé Ice”, what do you attribute your success to?
For me, the most important factor behind the success of my brand is really believing in myself and also having a good support system. You are the one running your show and you are also your biggest critic but you must keep striving, believing in yourself, and giving your best no matter what. It’s even easier to do so when you have a good, honest, and loving support system. Surrounding yourself with people who believe in what you do and push you to do your best is such great feeling and a blessing. I am very grateful for the people that I have in my corner and for the people I’ve met and will meet along the way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The things I’m most excited about is getting to work with other artists or the ones I already make music and creating that magic. When you’re able to just focus on something you love and you’re able to connect well with others it just brings the best out of you and you yearn for more.
I’ve been in and around music my whole life so making the decision to start rapping kind of came naturally, the first step is just doing it. It wasn’t easy to start and still isn’t but like I always say: “Knowledge comes from experience.” You really have to take risks and get yourself out there doing the little and big things to really understand how things work and also how to keep improving.
Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is that even when things aren’t going your way you have to keep pushing and not get down on yourself. Like I said before, you are your own worst critic so it’s okay to be upset that things aren’t going your way. That just means you care about what you are doing and you have to redirect that energy into positive energy and put it into your art.
What I want the world to know about Suavé Ice is that everything that I do and all the music I make is 1000% my genuine self. In my music you can hear it and feel it but I also try to make it fun and mix in a lot of clever things whether it’s me trying to make you think or make you laugh. I make music for everyone to enjoy but also for me to enjoy as much as the other artists I listen to on the regular. When you believe in and really like the art you make, that’s when others will hop on board too because they can see and feel that raw emotion and drive.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends and I are foodies so we are always trying to find new places to eat. One of my favorites is Red Claw Crab Shack. It’s honestly like a seafood boil for yourself. Being in DFW, it’s nice to get some real tasty seafood when we really don’t have a body of water close to us.
For the nightlife we typically go to West 7th st. in Fort Worth. It’s usually pretty lit and my favorite place to go after the turn up is to this little taco truck that I’ve been going to for the longest. They have so many options and it really hit’s the spot.
My friends and I also like to keep it chill and low-key so every now and then we go to this spot in Downtown Fort Worth called Silver Leaf cigar lounge. They have a very nice selection of cigars and they make a damn good old fashioned.
There is also this dope little putt-putt and go-kart place that I like going to a little outside downtown that’s fun to take someone on a date or kick it with your friends.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout 3 people specifically. Shout out to my guys Jarja Andrews, Dillon Shaw, and Gunnar Gonzalez on my music journey. I very much appreciate all they’ve done to guide me, push me, and have a lot of fun doing what I do. I am very grateful these amazing people in my life.
