We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristine Smock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided to start my own business at the age of 33, because I have worked tirelessly and poured my heart into other people’s businesses since I was 14 years old. I finally realized I am talented, and started to believe in myself. I love great scented candles, perfumes, wax melts, and soaps, but I don’t love the harmful ingredients some manufacturers add to make the products. I found a better way to create products that I enjoy without breaking my bank or having to worry about harmful additives. I enjoy the freedom of being able to work for myself doing things that I love.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Kristine With A K Entertainment was born from my time as the Director of Operations of the Dallas Massage Chair Bus Tours and DFW Massage Chair Bus Tours. It was there that I first got to experience the joy of helping someone make their dreams come true. Of helping someone to be their true self, unapologetically and to really “let their hair down” to escape the prison of society’s “norm.” For at least an Hour or two, anyway. From there I was hooked. I found my calling. I create experiences by teaching others it’s okay to walk in the greatness designed for you, even if it makes you different from everyone around you. We capture that feeling in a photo or party or event and the client can carry that with them forever.
A year ago, I was in a homeless shelter in Fort Worth with my two babies ages 6 and 2. A year before that, I was in an abusive and unfaithful marriage. I’ve been disowned, mistreated and put through many unspeakable trials and tribulations. I realize today as a business owner that I went through so many tests in order to give me a stronger testimony. I’m so proud of where I am today, and so grateful to continue to expand my brand and step into the greatness in store for me.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that no matter how dark and hopeless it may seem, trouble will never last forever. It will eventually get better, and the only way I truly lose in life is if I give up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d have to go to Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark, eat some delicious Mexican food at Dos Hermanos, hang out at a pop up vendor event hosted by K$G Fragrances By Kre, buy some new outfits from Iced Out Fashions, drink some delicious mixed drinks at the Varsity Tavern, check out the sights at Wakanda Bar and Grill, and go to both Deep Ellum in Dallas and the Stockyards in Fort Worth.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My boss friends in the small business world, including K$G Fragrance by Kre and Iced Out Fashions, along with many other business owners who have mentored me along my journey. The network of people I’ve met since moving to the metroplex is priceless.
