We had the good fortune of connecting with Darce Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darce, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In starting my business I wanted to eventually end up in the wedding industry. I always loved seeing wedding images on social media and wanted to be a part of something so special. There is something about meeting new people and capturing their special day for them to remember for the rest of their lives. I started off with graduation portraits at Texas Tech hoping that when the clients graduated, they’d get engaged and then remember that I was their last photographer they worked with.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think my personality is what sets me apart. I believe that the wedding industry is very saturated with wedding photographers but the real reason a client would book with you is because they feel they can connect with you on a deeper level. Photographer’s end up being the safe space on the wedding day. We handle ourselves in a professional manner while also easing the worries of a bride or groom. I feel that I am very reassuring and regardless of what might be going wrong, I am able to ease the minds of the clients I work for! I want to celebrate the couple because it is their day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d probably start out with the botanical gardens because I am a photographer and I love that place. I’d also have them try Grace downtown, Melt for some ice cream, hangout around Sundance Square, and probably do some top golf!! I love the downtown atmosphere a lot in Fort Worth.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to first shout out my significant other, Madelaine Vaughan. No matter how hard the business got during bust season, she was always there asking me what I needed and made suggestions to further my business. Also, no one in particular, but any photographer that has actually answered when I asked questions has been super helpful. I’ve always believed in community over competition and without these helpful people I am not sure I would be where I am today.
