We had the good fortune of connecting with Neilequelette Roy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neilequelette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I began making candles it start as a form a therapy when my father passed during covid. I never imagined living life without him. But my therapy quickly became a business that my family, friends and now others have grown to LOVE !! I believe that you should have multiple outlets to stimulate your mind, body and soul !

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Calm and Co. Candles is a luxury soy candle brand, who scents focus on aromatherapy and spa like scents the most popular scent being Cocoa Butter Cashmere that we can’t keep in stock. We also offer wax melts, room sprays and candle accessories. This brand was started as a form of therapy and a getaway from losing my father during the beginning of covid. I use to buy anything aromatherapy I mean anything from bath salts to candles. Then one day I purchased my very first candle kit from amazon. With a lot of trial and a whole lot of error a brand was developed. I was terrified when I decided to launched my website on my father’s birthday because I was worried that it wasn’t professional enough because I did it all on my own. I set a monthly goal my first month and actually obtained it within my first week. It was how I knew this was what I wanted to continue doing. I’ve learned you never know what you are capable of if you never try. Calm and Co. Candles I want it to become a household name like some of the other major candle brands.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas has so much to see and do, one of my favorite spots to mediate has become the prayer mountain. We would also have to visit my on of my former co-workers brunch spot ESO Mimosa bar in Arlington. Of course a visit to The Daiquiri Shop is always necessary and anyone who knows me knows seafood will always be involved so Bayou Cat is an automatic.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is dedicated to my Father, Neil Roy who even in Death has motivated me more than ever. Also to my kids Hazel and Kevin who has shown unconditional love!
