We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Kendle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joy, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
From a social impact standpoint, QuickSit serves two specific groups of people. We serve parents in the community who are in need of childcare help by connecting them with local sitters at nearby colleges. We also serve college students by using our mobile babysitting app to create part-time flexible jobs for them to financially support themselves while enrolled in school.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Getting QuickSit to where it is today has been quite the journey. I came up with the idea at the beginning of 2016, the app went into development in 2018, and we officially launched in 2019. Looking back, I’m most proud when I think about all of the pieces I had to connect to get the business from idea all the way to a functioning app in the App Store. I had no business background and no tech knowledge, so I learned that Google was my best friend and slowly began to connect all of the pieces. We will celebrate 1 year of being launched in August 2020 and I can officially say that our biggest and most unexpected challenge was navigating the business in the middle of a pandemic. There was nothing that could have prepared myself or my team to know what to do. It really pushed us to get creative and pivot quickly in order to stay connected with the parents and sitters we serve.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in Fort Worth, TX would include the Stockyards, sitting outside at Joe T. Garcia’s enjoying a frozen margarita, and going for a walk on the Trinity Trail. Downtown Fort Worth is fun to walk around and Magnolia Street has cute restaurants and shops to walk to as well!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a christian, I dedicate my shoutout to my faith in God. He is the one who put the desire to create QuickSit on my heart and has continued to pave the way on my business journey by connecting me with a great support system and mentors. He has continued to provide for the needs of my business, which has grown my faith even more as I’ve navigated all of the ups and downs in creating, launching, and running QuickSit!
