Meet Tiara Anderson | CEO of Mother Melanin Cosmetics

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiara Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiara, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The process to starting Mother Melanin Cosmetics came from wanting to give people of color chemical free alternatives with skincare products besides what’s advertised to us . I would literally go to my local drug store and stock up on new products that were supposed to be designed for people of color , only to find out it further irritated my sensitive skin . Mother Melanin was created to help those who feel helpless when it comes to acne , hyperpigmentation, eczema , and other skin conditions .

What should our readers know about your business?
As a teenager , I would see all the girls putting on makeup ,and I was never any good at it .I would practice everyday , but I could only get the eyeliner down . I told my mother my frustrations , and she would always tell me “ you’re skin is gorgeous , make the best of it . From there , I would go to Walmart to buy every skin product known to man . The products just didn’t seem to help , but further set me back on my journey to clear skin. My senior year of college I started researching natural ingredients to help with hyperpigmentation, and sensitive skin . Every mixture wasn’t a hit , and it was very hard to create a product that would serve everyone . People would always compliment my skin , and ask for recommendations. It dawned on me that it was time to share my creations with the world , and then Mother Melanin Cosmetics was created .Entrepreneurship is never easy , but I applaud every person who takes that step to become their own boss . Managing yourself seems easy until all the deadlines are depending on you .The biggest challenge I faced on the road to entrepreneurship was learning how to manage my time , and balance my life . I would work so many hours at my job , and come home to so many orders which would drain me . I learned that business , and organization go hand in hand . The more organized I was with my business the better I could utilize my time .I want the world to know that Mother Melanin Cosmetics may be a small business now , but we plan on being world wide . We will continue giving our customers clean skincare products that they can depend on..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting , I’d take them to my favorite Thai street food place Cris & Johns in Addison . We would also visit Crushcraft Thai Eats in Uptown Dallas. We can’t forget about soul food ! You can’t leave the Dallas area without going to Lolos Chicken & Waffles in Grapevine . Then we would visit Deep Ellen where the bars & food are plentiful . Shopping is a must right ? Then we’d visit North Park Mall , and the Galleria.
