Meet Vedika | Independent Singer-Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vedika and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vedika, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favorite quotes is “pressure is a privilege.” Whenever I am stressing and holding myself to a high standard, I remind myself of this. If people put pressure on me, it is because they expect me to perform. They believe in me. I have the skillset and ethic to achieve my goals, whatever they may be. This quote helps keep me motivated and grounded.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Having my debut single released internationally through a label and producer was a pinnacle experience for me. The first-ever song I had written, sang, and produced was going to be available all over the world. It was such a rare and exciting experience and I am so grateful to have experienced that so early on in my career. Witnessing “Playing Games With Myself” be featured on the Spotify editorial playlist “Women of Indie India” was another exciting and surreal moment. Hearing myself on the radio, performing my song at interviews: all things that were surreal to me.
At the end of the day, I am a singer-songwriter. I write about my feelings and thoughts in my bedroom and then record them over music in my closet. I remember writing my first song: it was a rush of ideas and over in about 10 minutes. Those 10 minutes opened up a whole new door for me: I began recording, producing, and sharing my music with the world. I think starting is the easiest when it comes to making music. There is no expectation, no previous record to top, no progress to make: it is just pure creation. Making music that is consistently improving is a challenge, but by surrounding myself with people that inspire and support me, and by keeping my creative role models always around me, I can push through. I have learned that being an artist is not as easy as it looks (this goes for most things) but it is an extremely rewarding experience. I have gotten the opportunity early on in my career to work with some amazing industry professionals and have learned that building a brand and following is a matter of consistency, authenticity, and time. I want the world to know that I am an 18-year old girl, who is in the process of finding herself and sharing her journey with the world through music.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to call Dallas the New York City of the South. It has a cosmopolitan feel, while still providing the southern convenience and charm. I love to shop, and have some favorite spots to hit during my shopping sprees. The Allen outlets, Galleria Mall, and Legacy West never disappoint. Food is another thing in abundance: Hutchins BBQ and Truckyard are two pretty unique and fun places to grab a bite. Some of my go-to parks to watch the sunset and picnic are Bob Woodruff (to see the fireflies) and Clyde Warren, which is right in the heart of the city and close to the Dallas Museum of Art. For a fun, lively night, I would head to the American Airlines Center to catch a Dallas Mavericks game or a huge concert.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my Mum. I truly believe she has made me the girl I am today, and she has believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. She has always pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and has endlessly supported me. I love you, Mum 🙂
