Why they do what they do


We asked some of the city’s leading artists and creatives to tell us about how they decided to pursue an artistic or creative career. We’ve shared some highlights below.

My deep connection to music has been present since I can remember. I know I told my mom I wanted to be singer when I was 5 years old. I started writing songs and taking voice lessons around age 10. It has always felt like a need to have a creative outlet. It’s truly therapy for me. I think that’s why my first 3 singles came when I was in a really dark place. I pursued an artistic career for multiple reasons one of the most popular of many is i have been a creative individual since i can remember i was always drawing/creating little skits or videos on a ipad and even when i was little i had never had an issue with creativity and now as a early adult i still have thrips beloved trait and i couldn’t see myself pursuing a boring job when i get older so i decided to start now and scale myself so that by the time im an adult i can be self employed full time. I pursued writing a book because I am passionate about sharing authentic stories from people of different cultures. My first book was a passion project turned into a small business. I have been enjoying hosting story times at local bookshops, cultural events and also partnering with small businesses to share my book with others. Read more>>
