We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important thing I have done as a parent is invited my daughter to be part of the process of building my business. A lot of times we want to shield our children from anything outside of their day to day activities and the bubble that they tend to live in. However, life presents us all challenges and the way that we grow is through how we respond to those challenges. We can tell our children that they can achieve whatever they put their mind too and to chase their dreams but, at the end of the day, they will look to see if our words match our actions. I knew I couldn’t instill confidence and self-belief in my daughter without demonstrating those characteristics myself, and I am glad that I engaged her in what has been quite an interesting process. Things haven’t been perfect on our journey to entrepreneurship, but we’ve pivoted, learned and adapted our way to where we are now, and I am proud that she has been able to bear witness to that.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Building ANU Consulting has been a challenging but fulfilling task. Starting a business requires a certain threshold for risk and a belief that the service you are offering will produce a positive output for your customer. When we first set out to develop a training and education program, we had to take into account that project managers tend to be a jack of all trades. The role encompasses an array of soft and technical skills that are built on a foundation of expert communication techniques. It certainly wasn’t a walk in the park but seeing the success of our clients has been a beautiful reminder of how fulfilling it is to have the honor of participating in the journey of those you serve.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a native Texan, I have had the pleasure of exploring some of best places the state has to offer. Whenever I have friends visiting, I always make it a point to bring them to the lesser known spots that are only on the radar of Dallas locals. One of my favorites is Frida’s Tacolandia in Oak Cliff. They have the absolute best birria tacos in the city! After that, I’d take them into downtown to take a walk through the arts district and visit all of the wonderful art exhibits and museums. I couldn’t let them leave without stopping by Klyde Warren park to visit the best food trucks the city has to offer.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to Dr. Matthew Platz who is a chemistry professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. As a college student I struggled to find my way in academia. He took me in and mentored me throughout my collegiate career. Without his mentorship and guidance I certainly would not be where I am today. Thank you Dr. Platz!
