Parenting series: having a positive impact

Parenting is an incredibly important responsibility and so we wanted to get a conversation going with input from parents in the community. We asked them: what is the most important thing you’ve done as a parent? We’ve highlighted some of the responses below.

Creating businesses is more than a personal decision, a marital decision, or a worldly decision — when we create businesses, we envision legacy. We create with the hopes that our children will someday have financial freedom, creative inspiration, endless community, and something meaningful to be involved with in whatever capacity they feel called to. I am a mother to 8 children . 4 beautiful girls and 4 handsome young men. I am a recovering addict and lost my rights to all of my children in 2018. Thankfully after having to be partially separated and put in foster care my children were adopted by family members. Fast forward to today I’ve changed my life and now am able to be in my children’s life. Changing my life was the most important thing that I could do for my children after the trauma that they suffered from. We are now healing together gracefully which I knew was very important after receiving help for my addiction and healing my own trauma I didn’t only make amends directly but indirectly also!! The most important thing I’ve given my children is grit—the grit of never giving up, believing that anything is possible, and understanding that hard work has no option. As a busy mom of two—a swimmer and a soccer player—I’ve worked hard to model resilience, determination, and balance. As a parent, I believe the most important thing I’ve done is lead by example—showing my children what it looks like to build a meaningful life through creativity, resilience, and integrity. They’ve seen me work through challenges, stay committed to my passion, and remain grounded in what truly matters. I want them to know that it’s not about perfection—it’s about showing up with purpose and heart. I hope that witnessing that gives them the confidence to follow their own paths, whatever they may be.
