One of the most important things I pray impacted his life is that his dreams are limitless. I have never pressured him to decide as a teenager what he wants to do with the rest of his life. I wanted to work in IT when I was 18, and I did. I also hated it. Thankfully I didn’t follow social norms and continue to do it. My son has watched me change careers (not jobs) 4 times in my life in the pursuit of happiness. I make sure to let him know that his parents will support him in what ever he chooses to do as long as it brings his heart joy and if it doesn’t than it is time to re-evaluate. I would say the most important thing I’ve done as a parent in terms of the impact on my child is being consistent. Consistent with how I show up for her, love her, follow through on promises, and how I show up in my work. She will remember that and how safe and secure it made her feel. Consistency brings stability and flow to everything in life and children, more than anyone, need that. I think because I’ve always been able to do that, even in the hardest times, for her- it has allowed me to better show up for myself, too. Read more>>
