We had the good fortune of connecting with Zalika “Zstar” Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zalika “Zstar”, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued my creative career because it was always a childhood dream. Entertainment has always made me feel alive. Like a magical feeling! My background is in accounting but my creative side would just scream inside of me to let loose. As a child, I would take photos and I wrote a full feature movie at the age of 14 years old in two weeks that took place in Los Angeles and featured my siblings and celebrities.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art consists of music, fashion, producing events and the tv/movie industry, I began as a fashion runway/commercial print model. About 3 years later I pursued a career in the movie industry. That was indeed a childhood dream. I never wanted to model, as though I was a tomboy growing up, skateboarding, playing basketball/football, and climbing trees was my passion. I landed in the music industry after my cousin and younger brother asked me to manage them. They are a rap duo from Dallas/Atlanta.   They needed consistent content and it became very expensive.  To make a long story short I picked up a camera again and started shooting music videos. In life, I think you should follow your imagination, so many things start there. That is what I do, if there is anything I want to do, I do it. Work on cars, build set designs, work with the youth, etc. I have worked with some amazing people in the industry and there were times I thought, ” I can’t believe I am here”.  However, it was not always easy. Unlike your average pay period (two weeks/once a month), in the entertainment world it would be months before you would get paid. I remember having 5 jobs in 2011 to ensure I had income consistently coming in. The other side was sacrificing being in a serious relationship due to possible distractions. I have learned that timing is everything and balance is imperative. Continue to learn and master your craft! I am a dreamer and I strive to achieve my goals with a smile. Zstarrock Productions is a brand about believing in yourself, integrity and bringing your imagination to life one star at a time!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I enjoy the Bishop Arts area, Downtown area, specifically Kitchen and Kocktails, Campisi’s, DJ’s Steakhouse, FiveAM Theater, Chocolate Lounge ExClusive, Tejas, Sandaga, Typsy Alchemist, Rokwood, Citizen, Blum At The Sporting Club, Ships and Whiterock Lake.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout series starts with my mother, Imani Pamoja! She always encouraged me to believe in myself and she pushed me to pursue my creative endeavors. I would like to also shoutout my friends and family who support me. My agents and acting coaches who gave me a chance to become a professional model and actor. Lastly and greatly, I would like to shoutout my son King aka KiD SpaZZy, he is not only a creative himself but he has loved me during the process of pursuing my dreams. I raised King as an only parent and there were many challenging times yet he always wished me luck with a smile!
