We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvette Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvette, how does your business help the community?
When I think about the ripple effect one person can create, I see it every day in my work.

My journey began without mentors or a roadmap, just a deep belief that every person is born with unique gifts, even if they can’t see them yet. That lived experience is the heartbeat of my companies: Development Culture, LLC and Dev Culture, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Whether I’m working with high school seniors, new graduates, retirees, or immigrants navigating a new country, my mission is the same: to help people unearth their superpowers, map out their possibilities, and build a life that honors their true potential.

Too often, we expect people to find their way by trial and error, hoping they’ll stumble into their calling. But life moves fast, and years can slip by…talents wither in jobs that don’t fit, and gifts go unrecognized in environments that don’t nurture them. I see each client as a seed with the potential to bear fruit, if only they’re planted in fertile ground.

Through our Vision Program for youth, I’ve watched teenagers discover they have natural leadership abilities they never knew existed. I’ve seen college students finally understand how their unique combination of creativity and analytical thinking isn’t a contradiction, it’s their superpower. My approach helps them name their strengths, plan strategically, and brand themselves authentically, so they step into adulthood with clarity and confidence.

For adults in transition, whether retiring, laid off, or starting fresh, I guide them through personal strategic planning, systems thinking, and habit-building, helping them make the most of their time, energy, and resources at any stage of life.

Our nonprofit extends this work to Latino immigrants through our year-long Elevate program, delivered entirely in Spanish. We address not just language, but mindset, habits, and the unique challenges of building a new life in a new country. Breaking cycles of poverty and disempowerment requires more than good intentions, it takes guidance, long-term commitment, and a belief in what’s possible. Many of our clients go on to land better jobs, start businesses, and become confident decision-makers for themselves and their families.

The numbers tell part of the story: Latino communities represent a $4.1 trillion economic powerhouse, the fifth largest economy in the world if we were our own country; and are responsible for 58.7% of U.S. labor force growth since 2010. But beyond statistics, I see the human stories. The single mother who learned to advocate for herself in parent-teacher conferences. The young man who went from feeling invisible to landing his dream job because he finally understood how to articulate his value.

Each person we help becomes a catalyst in their own community. They make better decisions for their families, mentor others, and contribute meaningfully to neighborhoods that become stronger because of their presence. When someone learns systems thinking and strategic planning, they don’t just transform their own life – they model intentional living for everyone around them.

As an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, I know that learning a language is just the first step. True integration and empowerment come from understanding the system, building new habits, and feeling supported every step of the way. Our work is about more than individual success, it’s about building a future where everyone has the tools, confidence, and opportunity to fulfill their part of the American dream.

Every person we help creates a ripple effect of hope, resilience, and leadership. That’s how we change communities and, over time, the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is a reflection of my own journey, one marked by self-reliance, resilience, and the willingness to reinvent myself over and over again. I grew up without mentors or a clear path, so I became the person I needed: a guide for those who feel lost, unseen, or unsure of their own gifts. That’s the heartbeat of Development Culture LLC and Dev Culture, Inc., helping people realize they already have what it takes to thrive.

What sets my work apart is how deeply personal and practical it is. I don’t just teach strategies or frameworks; I help people obtain clarity using objective data, discover their purpose, and understand their vision first, because real change starts from within. I’m bilingual and bicultural, drawing on an extraordinary lifetime of experience: from call centers to courtrooms, serving as Advisor to the President of the Dominican Republic for a decade where I developed a community college system that transformed over 30,000 lives, to teaching ESL to new immigrants. I’ve been a Director of International Projects, a Liaison Officer for the U.S. Department of Defense, a Florida Bar member, and certified mediator. Every role taught me something profound about people, systems, and creating lasting change at scale.

My clients come from all walks of life – students, professionals, immigrants, retirees – and I meet them where they are, helping them build confidence, structure, and momentum. With over 20 years in program management and operational excellence, plus certifications in Lean Six Sigma and Strategic Planning, I bring both heart and science to transformation.

The journey wasn’t easy. I faced academic struggles, career setbacks, and the challenge of being the “first” or the “only” in many rooms. There were moments of doubt and exhaustion, but I learned to see every obstacle as a lesson in resourcefulness. I leaned into my strengths – efficiency, empathy, and strategic thinking – and used them to help others do the same.

The biggest lesson? The best leaders aren’t the ones with all the answers, but the ones who help others find their own.

What I’m most proud of is the ripple effect at every level: seeing a client step into their power, watching a team transform chaos into collaboration, hearing that a parent advocated for their child with new confidence. But it’s the large-scale impact that energizes me, building that community college system, creating Celebra Grapevine as the first Hispanic Heritage Festival in Grapevine, Texas, and watching communities transform one empowered individual at a time.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my brand, it’s this: We believe in creating cultures of development where people don’t just live with purpose, but live on purpose. When individuals understand their unique gifts and learn to leverage them intentionally, they become catalysts for transformation in their families, organizations, and communities.

From someone who grew up without guidance to someone who guides others, I’ve learned that our greatest struggles become our greatest gifts. This is what living on purpose looks like: taking your deepest wounds and turning them into your greatest service. When we break cycles of limitation, we don’t just free ourselves, we free everyone who comes after us. Every person I help discover their gifts becomes living proof that we all have the power to transform not just our own story, but the story of everyone around us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d show them the perfect blend of sophistication and fun that makes DFW irresistible!
Thursday nights at Rare Books Bar are pure magic – their singer sounds exactly like Frank Sinatra, and sipping craft cocktails surrounded by vintage books feels like stepping into old Hollywood. We’d hit Legacy Hall for concerts and shopping, then dive into the incredible Asian Food Court at Music City Mall in Lewisville (my favorite – the Korean Junkie wings). Friday or Saturday at Hotel Vin is a must when their DJ is spinning the best 80s, 90s, and early 2000s hits. I love dancing to those nostalgic beats! Wednesday nights mean Whiskey Smoke for line dancing lessons, because I’m always up for learning new moves and connecting through music. For the perfect evening any day of the week, we’d catch sunset at PIAF Grapevine on their deck with live music and that golden hour magic. DFW has this incredible way of blending world-class entertainment with genuine Texas hospitality, amazing food from every culture, and people who know how to celebrate life, whether you want sophisticated cocktails or dancing till your feet hurt, this metroplex has it all.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a huge shoutout to two incredible organizations: the teams at 6 Stones and House of Shine.

6 Stones transformed how I understand sustainable change. Their programs don’t just move people from rescue to recovery, their ultimate goal is restoration, creating success that actually lasts. As a Board Member, I’ve witnessed how they build foundations for people to thrive long-term, and this philosophy has deeply influenced my own programs.

House of Shine is a self-discovery museum that helps people uncover what makes them unique. What makes our partnership special is how they’ve championed my vision for Spanish-language programming, ensuring transformational experiences aren’t limited by language barriers. They don’t just tolerate my passion for serving the Latino community, they actively help me expand its reach.

Both organizations don’t just partner with me – they truly value my unique talents and experiences. I can’t create the change I envision alone. But partnering with 6 Stones and House of Shine gives me hope because together, we’re proving that when mission-driven organizations join forces, the impact multiplies exponentially. They’ve shown me that the most powerful work happens not in isolation, but in community.
