We had the good fortune of connecting with Young Marrs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Young, why did you pursue a creative career?
I guess you could say I’ve always been exposed and involved in the music industry growing up. My father’s side of the family ran a record label called ‘Big Gun Records” in the early 2000s managing, producing, and promoting artists like Big Gemini, Blast, and Unkut while working with artists like Play N Skillz, DSR, Bun B from UGK, Akon and Scarface. So I’ve always been surrounded by incredible musicians who have shown me that a career in music is very possible. My father also played the biggest role in introducing me to the fundamentals of writing music. As a teenager I was very reserved and had trouble conveying my emotions so he showed me that writing music could be an outlet to express how I feel or remove any lingering thoughts that might be troubling me. It wasn’t until the late 2010s that I felt like I had mastered the craft enough to present it to the world, and understood that what I had to say could help another individual going through what I was going through. I do this because I love the craft, and it’s all I know, but also to help guide me through life and let any other people who might be in a similar situation know that they’re not alone.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I plan on using my platform as a way to connect with people and create a soundtrack to their life. I hope one day to be successful enough to be able to give back to the community by building homeless shelters, food pantries, and supporting small businesses with collaborations or investments.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I feel like Dallas is best represented by the energy that you feel when all parts of the metroplex are brought together so I would visit venues like the American Airlines Center, The Factory, House of Blues, and AT&T Stadium to see who’s giving the city life that night. Then maybe stop by for some late-night tacos from La Paisanita or some barbecue from Odom’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m very blessed and grateful to God first and foremost…I feel like the stars aligned to help my movement, but also having the support of my fans and family has made the biggest impact in my eyes, so shoutout to them for coming to every show, repping their Young Marrs shirts, and always breaking the volume knob when Young Marrs plays. Huge shoutout to Robert Vargas from Healthy Habitz for currently being the other half of Young Marrs sonically, and polishing the music in a way that stands out from the rest. Shoutout to DJ Kane, DJ Reave, Spaceboi Fresh, and any other radio personalities who have shown support along the way, I’m excited to check in and keep track of our growth in the upcoming years, Big shoutout to Break Em Off Djs and the Mixxkutt Djs and all of the other DJs that I have met along the way who help echo the sounds of Young Marrs across the city/state I got a lot of love and respect you all and your craft. Shoutout to Films by Prophecy for always executing the visual representation of Young Marrs through film and any photographers that I’ve had the pleasure of working with along the way.
