We had the good fortune of connecting with Yolanda Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yolanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The desire to start my business, Yolanda Banks Wellness, was born from both personal experience and a deep sense of purpose. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, I realized just how powerful and necessary a holistic approach to health truly is. Nutrition, mindful movement, and stress management weren’t just tools for survival; they became the foundation for my healing and thriving. And I thought, if I can heal myself, I can help others too.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My background as Executive Director of Child Nutrition for a large charter school network showed me firsthand how critical access to real, nourishing food is and how many people, especially in underserved communities, are searching for sustainable, practical ways to reclaim their health.

I started Yolanda Banks Wellness to bridge the gap: to provide real, evidence-based guidance that empowers individuals to take control of their own health journeys. Through personalized nutrition plans, mindful movement practices like yoga, and stress management tools, my goal is to help people build lasting habits that support strength, longevity, and vitality.

At its core, Yolanda Banks Wellness is about more than just wellness; it’s about teaching people that small, intentional changes rooted in self-awareness and self-compassion can spark profound transformation.

What sets me apart is the truly integrative approach I take; combining nutrition, movement, and mindfulness into practical, personalized strategies that fit real life. I’m most proud of creating a space where people feel empowered, not overwhelmed by their health journeys. Helping someone realize their body can heal, grow stronger, and thrive never gets old, that’s what excites me every day.

The road wasn’t easy but I found purpose in the struggle. Trusting in God and taking that leap of faith was scary, especially financially. The ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) were rampant, but I knew this is why God put me here. I had to choose faith over fear on a daily basis. I kept wanting everything to be perfect down to the name and a dear friend of mine encouraged me saying, “you have all the knowledge, personal experience and the tools needed to help others and you’ve been doing it for free for decades…just start!” That was the kick in the butt I needed. I overcame the challenges through prayer, conscious breathing, journaling, gratitude, affirmation and moving my body.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t about doing everything at once, it’s about doing the right things consistently. Patience, clarity, and the ability to pivot without losing my core mission have been essential. Most importantly, I’ve learned that real connection, truly seeing and serving people, is what has the most impact.

I want people to know that Yolanda Banks Wellness was built from lived experience, not theory. I’ve walked the road from diagnosis to healing, and I believe with the right tools: nourishing food, mindful movement, and intentional living, anyone can reclaim their health and rewrite their story. My brand is about real wellness for real life because lasting change isn’t found in perfection, but in showing up for yourself every single day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend Tracy Rathbun is a Restaurateur, so no visit to Dallas would be complete without a visit to one of her restaurants. Happy Hour on the Patio at Lovers Seafood with a Spicy Paloma never disappoints, followed by sushi at Shinsei. A walk down the Katy Trail and then lunch at Beverly’s. I’m a huge SUP fan, so paddle boarding at Lake Grapevine or White Rock Lake is on the agenda. A game of Pickleball at The Sandy Pickle is always a good time. If it’s football or basketball season, watching the game at Chelsea Corner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother Angela, who raised my brother and I as a single mom. I was born on her 17th birthday. Last year, on my 50th birthday, her 67th, she passed away after losing her battle with gastric cancer.
