We had the good fortune of connecting with Yessenia Carrasco and Louis Palacio n/a and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yessenia Carrasco and Louis Palacio, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
We believe that mushrooms are now more important than ever. Many people don’t know a lot about mushrooms and how many different species there are, or how they can help us in our everyday life. Mushrooms have so many great health benefits and that’s something that we want to share in our community. Spreading the mushroom knowledge is what we like to call it! When we talk to our customers at the farmers markets that may have never seen the different types of mushrooms, such as the lion’s mane mushroom or the always beautiful pink oysters mushroom; we share our knowledge about how lion’s mane is beneficial for our brain health and consuming it on a regular may be able to improve memory, concentration, and protect the nervous system. We also love the feedback we get when our customers come back and let us know how delicious they were! Sharing this information and reaching out to even just one person is already a reach in helping our community.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Let me tell you, it is not easy being a mushroom farmer! It takes a lot of work, patience, and time to run a small, little urban farm in your home garage while still working full time jobs. But we continue to learn and grow through trial and error everyday, and we are proud of what we have been able to do. It’s encouraging to us when customers keep coming back for more! It always makes us want to keep going and love what we do even more.
We want the world to know that what we provide are mushrooms that you won’t typically find at your local grocery store. We supply the popular Hericium erinaceus or better known as the Lions Mane Mushroom, and a variety of Pleurotus ostreatus aka Oyster Mushrooms.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definetly many of the farmers markets in the area like the Watauga Artisan Market and the Saginaw Farmers Market. Take them around Stockyards to the local bar like White Elephant Saloon. For dining, we love our bbq and we love Heim Barbecue for sure, Babes Chicken Dinner House, and Rodeo Goat!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Having a successful farm requires quite a bit of building, carpentry and imagery. We would not be able to have a successful farm without the help of Pancho Godina and Mario Carrasco and their knowledge in building some important key pieces to run our farm. We also want to give a shoutout to all the other mushrooms farmers around the world that share their vast knowledge through books and videos about the wonderful world of mycology.
