We had the good fortune of connecting with Yassien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yassien, what do you attribute your success to?
Resilience. Losses happen, A LOT. I just take them straight up and keep it moving. I officially started releasing comedy content online 5 years ago, and for every funny thing you see me put out, there’s also an un-funny video/song/etc. that countless hours were spent making. Those will never see the light of day of course, but being able to continue after “wasting time” is what I think brought me this far.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others is, I go the opposite way as others. I don’t like doing whats trendy or popular to do. I enjoy doing what I feel like, when I feel like it. I have no problem not pleasing everyone. My integrity is what I’m most proud of. I got here today by continuing through the adversity. A lot of people don’t know but I’ve lost thousands and thousands of dollars to create my art, to the point where I don’t think the average person would have continued. This journey has not been easy, you can ask the dozens who’ve helped me on projects that ended up on the “never release” list. As cliche as it sounds, I just kept going. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is, people have their own interests and it’s okay for them not to share the same ones as you, no matter how close they are to you. I would like the world to know that my senior year of high school they asked me what would I like my quote to be in the yearbook, and I said “No matter how hard you try, you’ll never be like me” the girl in charge named Sara said she refused to put that in there…..Well f&%$ you Sara.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend from out of town came into town I’d tell my friend I don’t go anywhere myself so how about YOU be a good friend and find something to do without me. Or we can play chess all day, I’m really good at it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would still be here with or without them BUT my close friend group: Ike, Kunda, Jerold, Stephan, and my girlfriend Chichi. I would also like to shout out Peter B, Professor J.Fox, D.Morris, anyone who’s ever booked with BTS Media, oh and Jamal Brown for recommending me to y’all! There’s a lot more but those named are the ones who had the biggest impact on my life and journey thus far.
