We had the good fortune of connecting with Vinay George and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vinay, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been a creative person, with a natural inclination towards visual storytelling. From a young age, I was drawn to movies and other forms of entertainment as a way to escape reality. As I grew older, I became increasingly interested in the process of film production and began to understand my own right-brained tendencies. My parents, who were both raised in musical households, also encouraged creativity in our household. As a result, I have always been drawn to art and was more eager to learn about it than other subjects in school.
After graduating from community college, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career that was centered on my passions for writing and video creation. I decided to make these creative endeavors the focus of my life, and I have been working towards this goal ever since.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is my determination and resilience, as well as the fact that I am able to make movies for a living. Growing up, I never thought it would be possible to have a career in film, but through hard work and perseverance, I have been able to turn my passion into a profession. There are two things i am particularly proud of. One of them I am particularly proud of is finding ways to overcome the numerous challenges that come with making films, as it requires constant problem-solving. I am excited about the future and what 2023 has in store for me and my films. Secondly, I recently completed a film called I SEE YOU, which was a mentally and physically challenging project. Fortunately, I had an amazing crew and cast who were able to come up with solutions for any problems we faced, allowing us to complete shooting in just two days. It took 6 months to edit the film, but I am thrilled that it is now available for viewing on YouTube. This has been my best work so far, and I am excited to see what the future holds for me and my films in 2023.
My journey as a filmmaker began in 2018 when I started editing YouTube videos. With the help of a friend, I was given the opportunity to work on my first film set as a second assistant camera in 2020 or early 2021. This experience sparked my interest and boosted my confidence, leading me to make my debut short film a few months later. Since then, I have been actively pursuing my career in film and have been involved in various projects. While the road to becoming a filmmaker has not always been easy, I have learned valuable lessons and grown both personally and professionally through the challenges I have faced. I believe that the journey, not just the destination, is an important part of life, and am committed to seeing it through and learning as much as I can along the way.
In 2023, I plan to make more short films of different scales and fully immerse myself in the world of filmmaking. I want the world to know that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. My previous short film, SNAP, which I made with my co-director Kayla in my mom’s living room, went on to become an award-winning film, showing that with dedication and passion, even the smallest of projects can achieve great success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a week to show my best friend the best time ever in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I would take them to Deep Ellum. There are so many great places to hang out, grab drinks, and eat in this area. If they’re visiting during basketball season, I would definitely recommend going to a Dallas Mavericks game. For sports fans, I would also suggest a trip to Arlington to catch a Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers game. To round out the week, we could visit Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor for some thrills. Overall, there are so many fun, interesting, and exciting things to do and see in the DFW area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been fortunate to have a strong support system of friends who have played a significant role in my journey as a filmmaker. Through social media and the internet, I have met some of my closest friends, including Digitalwlf, Carlos, Kayla Gilchrist, Tiffany Greenwood, Tvarus Hardy, Asante Pulliam, and Emmanuel De La Cruz. These individuals have been with me since the beginning of my creative journey in 2018 and have supported me through the ups and downs. I am grateful for all the friends I have met along the way and value the lessons and experiences I have had with each of them. Overall, I believe that everyone I meet has something to teach me and has played a part in shaping my life and career.
I would also like to give a shoutout to my parents for their unwavering support and encouragement. My mother has always been there for me, even if she didn’t always agree with my decisions. She has always been my biggest cheerleader and has helped me through tough times. My father has also been a constant source of support and has given me valuable advice when it mattered most. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their love and guidance
